I have been trying to get PBS on AMC3 here in Nova Scotia for a while and would appriciate hearing what size dish other people are using in the area.

I have been using a 30" dish and have only once, after much tweaking just succeeded in getting a lock on 12261 & 12264 under ideal conditions.
To add to my confusion I have seen two different footprint maps for Ku with signal levels of 45dB or 47dB for my area. My dish is on a motor in a windy location so I don't want to go any bigger than necessary for reliable reception but the is room for a second fixed dish if needed. It would really be interesting to here what other people are using in the Northeast.

welcome :wave

I know there are a couple memebers here in the NE (both US & Canada). Hopefully they can chime in.

I can get AMC3 here in MN but its tough with a 30" (signal at 45 on the Pansat 1500)

Hi Sadie
I'm in Newfoundland a little further east and maybe even north from you.
I'm using a Winegard 1M motorized with a .7 standard LNBF and I get PBS 12164 H with a signal of 82% and Quality of 64% on my Coolsat 5000.That channel is tough 11713 h is 94% Q.

Getting 66 on Montana and about 59 on the rest with a Fortec and 30 inch dish here in western NY. Had two episodes of "American Masters" tonight-Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, both good shows.

I can pick them up here in northern vt (lat 72, long 44) with a 30" dish, signal quality around 56 on the fortec, ~45 on the pansat. I would get a larger dish if I were you.

Thanks folks for the replies they have been very helpfull
Looks like I am going to shopping for a 1M dish light enough to keep my SG2100 motor happy

Hi Sadie:

Good to see a fellow Nova Scotian on the forum. I'm using a one meter (old Starchoice) dish. I can't move to that satellite and check it at this time as my buddy is in the middle of Magnum PI on RTN.

I have two channels listed for that satellite. (TV1 and TV3) I don't generally go there so that probably means I wasn't getting a good signal or had blank channels. If I have a chance tomorrow I will swing the dish over and report back.

Cheers
Bryce

Thanks Wshillington I'll be interested to hear how those old Starchoice dishes perform I've been keeping my eye out to see if I can snag one.
Doesn't look like the weather will co-operate, torrential rain down here in south western Nova Scotia and more on the way.
