I have a Open Box S10 receiver and have a signal of 89 and a quality of 50 but I can't get any lock on any of the RTV mpg. 4 signals on AMC-3. I get all the other mpg. 2 signals and ideas?

A lot of folks seem to have issues with the RTV S2 signals. It takes a well-tuned reflector of sufficient size and parabolic accuracy to pull those in.

For instance, I have no trouble getting those on my 8.5' Birdview solid, but can't even get a whiff of them with my old beat-to-hell 10' mesh dish.

What size/type dish do you have? It may be a matter of tuning your tracking/focal point/fd ratio/centering your feed.

And welcome to the forum. :)

a 50 quality probably wont pull them in due to it being DVB-S2. You need more signal quality to get them to lock

MPEG2 is easier to lock and you can in most cases with a lower signal quality

Tracking and a peaked dish is what is needed. I have a 10 foot dish and have no problem. That said, I had all kinds of problems until I got the tracking and focal distance spot on. Now I get everything!

Soon I will set up a 6 footer to play with. Then we will see just how hard these are to get after I get that tracking and tuned perfectly like my 10. Have a great day!:)

Thank for the quick response, I an using an old mesh 10' dish, now here is the kicker with a upcomm receiver that RTV provided to us (we are an RTV affiliate) I wanted to have a back up so I got an Openbox S10, using the loop thru on the lock Upcomm and I get no lock on the Openbox, that is the question do I have something not set-up correctly or is the Openbox not able to get the RTV mpg. 4 signals,
again thanks for the help.

Thanks for the quick reply, I find it hard to believe I am getting a lock on a commercial Upcomm receiver hooked to the same dish, the Openbox is hooked to the loop thru on the Upcomm receiver, I would thing the Openbox would be more forgiving. We have used Sencore MRD 3187A supplied by RTV on a 3.7 meter dish and it barley would lock, the Sencore was replaced by the Upcomm receiver. I think we all agree the signal on AMC-3 is weak. As you might know RTV is droping the Ku feed on AMC 9 , that is why we are working on another C-band feed a our transmitter site.

The Openbox is definitely capable of locking and displaying that signal, I am using an Openbox S9 here.

I assume you have to keep your Upcomm on at all times and can't hook the Openbox up direct to the LNB?

I know when I have slaved receivers from the loop out port, sometimes the "master" receiver has to be off or on standby for the slave to work properly. That is just my limited experience with a few consumer-grade receivers, it may not apply to your setup.

Also, when is that Ku feed supposed to go away?

the loop thru is good because that is where we hook out spectrum analizer while the Upcomm receiver is on. 100_5760RTV.JPG

This came from RTV about 2 weeks ago, but they are keeping the Ku feed up "for a couple of day longer" that all I know.
Effective 9/1/11 Luken Communications will no longer support feeds on AMC-9 KU band. All backup KU feeds will be moved to AMC-7 C-band. The new AMC -7 feed will be QPSK Mpeg-2 and no special receivers are needed for this feed. This only affects the KU feed on AMC-9. All current feeds on AMC-3 and AMC-7 will remain the same.

The loop throughs on my receivers were good also, but as I said above the master receiver had to be off or on standby for the slave to work. :) I think that may be your problem.

If you would list your setup parameters maybe we could see an issue there. Sounds like you should be getting plenty of signal from your dish.

We had heard about the new C-band MPEG-2 feed, but not about the Ku feed going away.........interesting.

God I hope this is not true.

AMC 7 is only 3 degrees on the horizon and I can't see it here.

Oh come on now. This s**ks.... April fools, right??

137w is waaay too far over and with the trees, there is no way I would ever be able to see it without putting a dish on a 40' tall pole.

Scott I guess Henry only told you the good news, here is an e-mail from Neal Ardman sent to us on the 19th,

Please forward to engineering and master control

I'll keep you posted on what I hear, we talk to them last week and they said "we are keeping the feed up a couple more day"

This is causing a lot of affiliates problems, here is a list of city's I personal know RTV may loose an affiliate, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Flint, Traverse City. The reason is some can't install a C-band dish, some don't have the room, At most site the land lord will charge for a large dish but not a small Ku dish on a building.
RTV I believe can't afford to loose any affiliates, Most of our viewer aren't happy with the program changes also. Maybe with some reorganization it can improve, MeTV is killing us, then have promo for the up coming programing, good looking graphics RTV has 2 ID slides and that's it!

We are going to install at 12' dish at out tower site anyone one want to joint the party, I buying the pizza!

Hmmmmm..... 4 hour trip..... I like pizza..... My dish is spot on....... (c-band amc3 rtv channels at 80% q, about the same on AMC-7.) ....... RATS! Only one vehicle and the Girlfriend needs it to go back and fourth to collage..... Shot down again! Story of my life..... Have a great day! :)

If a station needs to install a C-band then they should dump RTV for MeTV or Antenna TV. RTV is a joke. If the Ku band feed goes dark.........its their funeral. I will be shocked if they shut it off, they need all the viewers they can get.

I remember in the not to distant past when I thought RTV was the kitten's mittens...
Now, not so much.

I'm still hoping they can get things sorted out and back on track. The potential is there.

Seriously, Mr. Luken needs to sell his 165 foot yacht and put the money into improving his networks, content and quality. Ya know?

:)

What am I missing? If you don't have a c-band dish, you are not getting ME-TV or Antenna TV either.

Some stations are using KU band for RTV, but RTV wants them to upgrade to C-band. My point is if your going to pay to upgrade then choose a better channel like MeTV or Antenna TV. Just wait will ME adds star trek, lost in space, batman, etc.......bye bye RTV.
