I almost switched to direct because I am missing the NHL games and national geographic on Dish. I worked out an agreement with direct and was promised 1 whole house DVR, and 4 HD receivers as well as $29 off for 1 year and some other $5 off for 6 months and $10 off for a year things. I was getting the choice ultimate. I found out and correct me if I am wrong that the fox network was only in SD unless I joined the premier pack. So instead I was going to get the sports Pac for $13 and get fox sports in HD there. I was pretty happy with the deal , my 1st contract with them petard out because they took away their promises ( bait and switch ) so I cancelled and work out this second deal as I described above. Installation was suppose to be today, when I went back to make sure fox sports was indeed in HD in the sports pack the guy ( Peggy, if you know what I mean ) started re-reading my contract and all sorts of differences appeared . 4 HD receivers went to 1 HD and 3 SD and the other $5 and $10 off things were questionable. This was the second contract and I even printed out the agreed offers by email and they said they would not give me the original offers so after dealing with this for hours I said I AM OUT!. I have 3 months left on my dish contract and am pleased with dish except for the fox situation. I am warning some potential new direct customers here and was wondering if anyone else here didn't get what was agreed upon when your systems were installed. I haven't completely given up on direct but if you asked me that a few days ago I would of told you that I would never do business with them again.

I just signed up with DirecTV the other day (installation is on Monday). I did everything through the website so I knew exactly what I was getting. I do whatever I can NOT to have to deal with a person because I've learned over time that they either mess it up or don't follow through and do what they say they are going to do. Sad, really but websites don't seem to mess me up nearly as much as humans.

Sorry that you're having your difficulties.

I ordered online too and I've been getting all the credits that showed before I placed the order. A few days later, they called me to verify I understood every single credit and every single charge in my bill.

Better luck next time, if there's next time.

I used a local reatailer/installer. My install was yesterday. I got everything as promised including 2 brand new, shiny HR24s. MRV is awesome. And I swear the D* HD picture is noticeably better.

I couldn't be happier at this point.

it might be hard for the main co to give you such discounts. find a local retailer and see what they offer.

they should give all the standard discounts and Free hd dvr and hd with whole home service but also retailers can give extra boxes to make a sale if the wish. When you call direct to a retailer they dont have to pay a sales guys.

One extra hd non dvr should be in the works so you will only be out $99 for every hd box after the first three

Thanks for the responses, I have 2 months left with dish, maybe they will resolve the fox issue by then. I can watch the games on my PC hooked to my TV. I am going to start negotiating a new contract with dish to see what they will give me to stay. I kind of hate change so in all I am glad to still be with dish. From what I’ve learned if you have a houseful of TV’s get at least 2 dvr’s ......with dish or direct.

Dish won't give you squat. :) I tried. That's one reason I moved to D*.
I'm watching the Sabres game in HD. :) Couldn't do that with Dish.

I found with all these companies if one agent doesn't work with you just hang up and call again to get a new agent and they always have a different way the deal with you. Some I threatened to quit and they said quit, others do all they can to keep you. I have 2 months on this contract so I am starting now to threaten to leave to see what deal they may offer me and am hoping that the dish / fox dispute gets worked out. I streamed the hockey game last night and hooked it to my 1080p 120 hertz and it was almost the same as the normal feed from dish in HD. The Center Ice feed was only in SD and not available in my area of course, so the internet feed beat it in quality and was available. The internet feeds are only going to get better.

smart move , don't go with indirect tv!

Yeah, even though I don't get fox sports, for some reason I just feel staying with dish maybe the right move. I had a sincere talk with a dish rep. and she mentioned that maybe the others carrying fox channels , that their contracts are just not up yet and when they are they may be in the same shoes. This dispute with dish really dates back a year now as far as hockey games go and If this gets worked out dish in the long run may be the only one with fox. No one really knows. Like I said I am watching the games on the internet and they are getting better and better quality. Also you can go to the nat geo website and stream the shows to your HD TV in HD. I was surprised the regular TV that can be watched just through the internet.....just go to any broadcasting company and you will find most have the shows on demand and in most cases now in HD. Connecting my pc to my HD TV was a eye opener to me. Who knows maybe we will just be able to on demand everything from the internet and save ourselves a satellite bill one day.

That's one opinion (smart move) from a previously-banned member with an obvious DirecTV "axe" to grind.

Something to keep in mind about this issue, is that DirecTV seems to have a better track record in keeping channels available by avoiding carrier disputes.

Before another member replies, yes I do recall the "Versus" dispute ;).

I've been with DirecTV since '99 and I don't recall that many carrier disputes over the years but I hear about Dish's problems in the media.

The other thing to consider with comparing Dish to DirecTV is, that it depends on your priority for programming preferences.

Dish doesn't carry several sports services and doesn't offer all of the pro pkgs.

If one's primary preference is the most movie and nat'l services, then imo, Dish is the way to go.

If this gets worked out dish in the long run may be the only one with fox. No one really knows.
Highly doubt that. DirecTV's position with FOX is a little different in that DirecTV owns and operates FOX Sports Pittsburgh, RockyMountain, and NorthWest in a franchise-like manner.
