All Hoppers must have Joeys ?

I just want a single hopper. But was told I must have a joey. Not sure why, doesn't change my monthly bill to have one so dish gets nothing by forcing me to have it. However there are many reports of people getting away with just a hopper on their account. Lots of conflicting info out there.

From what i've heard and read, the first joey is included in the $10 whole home DVR fee from the hopper. And only additional joeys after that add the $7?

No, that $10 is for the whole account. The first Hopper is free, the first Joey and each added Joey (or Hopper) is $7.
To put that into perspective, it now costs $6 for the account for a DVR fee. BUT and additional DVR receiver to get HD costs $10 each. That's $16 for two TV's, the Hopper is $17 for two TV's.
