I understood charlie to on tonights chat "all HD is MPEG 4.
I compared both ESPN and ESPN2 HD's when both were showing the beginning of the SF/ARI game. Definitely was sharper and had better color on ESPN2.
Shhhh! Don't give them ideas.By the HD standards of the loading of MPEG2 HD they could run 8 HD channels per TP since they are running 4 per TP in MPEG2 mode right now.
They are using 3 MPEG2 HD channels per TP and 6 MPEG4 channels per TP.
I see 4 MPEG2 channels on 110 TP 7 and another 4 on TP13 according to:
ekb.dbstalk.com
Yes sir, you are correct. 4 HD MPEG2 streams per TP on 110w.
and that's why the picture quality on Discovery HD went to crap.
DirecTV style 9-10mbps ... actually I can't say that anymore about DSCHD as their quality is much better at the moment.
Yeah its not all on Dish's end most of the time when it comes to ESPN it all depends on what kind of cameras they are using at the game. Some games will look better than other simply due to they dont use the same hardware at each event. So it will vary from game to game.
