i disagree with you. is it not fair because hbo's have no commercials and are half the price of these local channels?

What does fairness have to do with it? AAD has to cover their cost and their cost structure is not the same as Dish's or HBO's. HBO is available to anyone with cable, satellite ,etc. Thier customer base is huge compared to AAD, which is what keeps their subscription fee's relatively low. You can't compare apples to oranges.

Alot of people are accusing AAD of being greedy but they really don't have any data to back that up. Maybe AAD's costs are very high and what they are charging is only giving them a reasonable profit. Maybe AAD thinks offering HD service is a risky business with their current customer base and they are pricing the service to minize loss if it should fail. Maybe they believe that demand for HD locals is going to drop as Dish continues to offer HD locals in more markets.

So far the poll numbers show over 82% either think the price is rip off or so high that they won't be buying hd distants at all. This sure doesn't bode well for Mike at AAD at all. Maybe he should reconsider his price right now? I don't think hd distants will last with only 4.5% using his service. Imagine the price he will charge for the remaining 4.5% who keep the hd distants if no one else takes their high priced service?

AAD Pricing as follows
1 HD network $9.99 each or 4 For $35
1 SD network $3.49 each or 8 for $12.99
1 HD network if you have the SD version $7.49 Each on top of the $3.49 for the SD version. Total $10.98 (3 Channels)
If you have all 8 of the SD versions for the $12.99 , Then 4 HD networks are $24.99 more For a Total of $37.98 (12 Channels)
If you Qualifiy for both HD citys Then add another $24.99 if you already Have all the SD channels.
So its $12.99 +$24.99+$24.99 =$60.97 for (16 Channels).
If you have NO SD pack, The its $70 for 8 Channels of HD
Any Questions?

wow, am glad I have Directv and not get robbed like you guys just to get HD/SD locals from outside your area. And who cares if I have to watch my locals from my area, could care less.

Well we don't have to buy them.
I have in market locals , And so does the other 185 markets E* carrys 30 more markets then D* does.:p
Atleast we don't have to pay for NFL ST even if we don't subscribe to it.:p:p
OH wait, that doesn't happen.

I would be happy to pay to get all 4 cities for 24.99 a month.

AAD you hearing this?

That would be $12.99 for both sd cities and $12.99 for both hd cities. OF course if you wanted one city it should be $6.25- $6.25 x4 =$25.00. I could go for that, and I am sure many more would follow at that price.

$40 for LA CBS/FOX *** HD only

$40/Quarter for LA CBS/FOX ** HD only No charge yet. My SD's expire in early July. FOX&CW are high-VHF stations (read gone) and CBS barely comes in for me.

And YES I got in trouble for moving [damn 211 failed to call home:mad:]. I am on two accounts to get the baseball that I love. Interesting that they had problems with my new account, forgot to move one account back home, and I had 2 accounts in the moved city. I did get a good deal on a new 722k for $75, already on contract with that account. I will evaluate next year whether FiOS [currently at 1 channel HD EI-baseball] or D* suits me better. Love the DISH DVR's though... One account will be disgarded after Sept...as it's too much.

Oh yeah, they told me that if you drop AAD SD you will not get the other SD time zone ones back.

So it is steep but worth it if you need HD on a receiver.

For me it comes down to How much does NFL Sunday Ticket Cost me plus all the extra switchover fees and things of that nature. I am paying 37.98 per month to get LA channels and I am just fine with that. And the channels look GRRREEAATT!

I had to call 4 times tonight

1st time was a great call until my cell phone dropped, called back 2nd and 3rd time, got 2 seperate people who gave me different prices from the 1st caller. Got amazingly the same 1st person I spoke too on my 4th try, she gave me LA in HD for 3 months at 49.99. Said I didn't need NY or SF. And the channels came on in like 3 minutes!

2nd call different lady said 12.99 each for NY and SF seperate. Then 24.99 for LA
3rd call guy said 3 months 49.99 for LA-HD was a lie.

4th time I called my phone cut out again and the lady actually called me back after the 10pm eastern deadline when they closed. I mean I wish I had her name she was amazing.

My channels expire automatically after 3 months and they are not wasting paper by sending me a bill in the mail.

Watching Simpsons on KTTV in 8 minutes! WHOOHOOOOO!

i voted flat out ripoff. it's outrageous what they are charging. having the options is very nice but not at these prices.

 why post if you don't care about the subject? and no one is getting robbed since you're not obligated to have distant locals

I am not eligible, and don't need it being in NY DMA. I get good OTA reception now, but first subscribed to Dish's LIL on 9/11 after losing all but two stations. And with my DVR's I have chosen to keep them since then. But that doesn't mean we can't feel the pain of those who have little choice but paying these prices or not having any HD "major" networks. These prices are high particular for those trying to pick the lowest HD package from Dish, but wanting the majors as well.

Sorry for the long post. I promise this is the last one for a long time. Try this train of thought...

If someone in the east gets the Chicago HD pack and pays the $25, then they really don't "need" L.A. HD. To this person there is only a very small benefit of having L.A. HD on top of the Chicago HD.

I do not think anyone can really argue with the above. They have to transmit the LA HD anyway, so why not give the people in the east a break on the price on the second set? No, not out of pitty but to "make money" for them. Money they would not have. Gravy.

So either Charlie is charging AAD per channel sold (in order to technically stay in the Distant business they were banned from) or AAD is the dumbest company ever. The first option is most likely so we are basically paying profit two times which is the reason for the out of site price. Seems like Charlie is probably no longer worrying about losing all his Distant Network users to Direct. Big mistake. Even a fraction of a percent lower than expected earning can cause a stock value be cut in half.

I say All American Direct is being truly stupid and short sighted in their pricing structure. They are going to price themselves right out of the hd distant business. You want a large volume of subs that pay you a smaller price vs a few sub that pay you more. The more customers that you get to subcribe to your business the less you have to charge for the distant packs. Even Mike Montford the Ceo of AAD said that he has a small percent of hd subs ; 30%. This is why he is justifying the large price he charges. If he would charge a reasonable price that would attract more subs , he could still make profits and pay for his rent for the transponder, backhauls , fiber links etc. THe more subs the less he has to charge for them . I think that $12.99 for both east and west coast HD distants is the right price. In these recessionary times , it doesn't make sense to charge $24.99 per city for hd. Lets face it . IF it wasn't for these web boards, and the Charlie Chat announcement, there would be very few people that would even know about these distant nets anyway. With over 82% of the poll numbers saying that this price is a flat out rip off, this doesn't bode well for the future of this company in the hd distant net business.

They are advertising it on channel 72 or 81 or something, probably in addition on 240. The fact is, if they can lower their prices, they will if need be to draw more subs. You can pay quarterly to save $$ it's $50 a quarter versus $75 for 4 HD/ 8 SD channels.
I know with AAD/NPS from my C-Band days that paying quarterly is the key. Also, if you need/want them badly enough, you will pay. Some folks do not have options out in the sticks and will gladly pay. I agree, the price is high. It is a lot of dollars, time and trouble to put up a rooftop with a rotator, but that's evidently what it takes to get VHF FOX in my tree lined area from 43 miles out. VHF-CW is gone, but VHF-PBS is good here. CBS-UHF is barely coming in, will go out if there's a wind. I will pay $40 a quarter for reliable CBS/FOX recordings, to avoid anaerial outside, Comcast or Direct... though DISH needs MLB-EI soon because this is a lot of trouble.
