Hello,

Has anyone heard of a c/ku-band dish made by Alcoa Inc. ?

I have a chance to get one for nothing as long as I remove it.

The dish panels are made from aluminum and it's around 8' to 10'.
I was thinking someone may have some info on it.

Alcoa Inc. is located locally here is SW PA so I'm not sure if it was a prototype or not.

There is a logo on it for Alcoa

I will take some pictures tomorrow and will post a few.

Thanks
John

Is the Alcoa logo just in one place or is it imprinted on the back of the panels in several places? We have steel buildings and other farm structures with the "supplier" name and logo imprinted all over the steel panels. Just a thought... perhaps Alcoa supplied the material for the BUD. If they did make it, I do not think that there are that many out there!!!

A 8 or 10ft solid dish for the taking... hmmm, should you get it...

I thought i was the only one....I was jumping up and down saying YES YES GO GET IT!

A solid dish of any type other than fiberglass is desirable, IMO. Aluminum dishes can get all dinged up, and can even be out of shape (warped), but no matter what you at least have scrap value if its toast.

Well I went to get pictures today and talk to the owner.
He used it for C band but the KU was very touchy .

It is a 8' that you can remove the other ring and make it 4'.

Here are the pics:

He has all of the parts but the LNB.

I'm going to call Alcoa today and see what they know about it.
It has the Alcoa logo in one place on the front (covered by snow).
Otherwise there is no other markings or numbers.

He did say it was a prototype.

I'd be all over it.
As for Ku being touchy, it would be if the positioner is sloppy, or has too few counts.

Nice pix. Thanks for sharing.
Go get it and let's see how well it works.
Shouldn't be any question about C-band.
Put most any LNBf on it.

you ain't left, yet ?

Yea, I'm with TruckRacer on this.

Go read this thread on LNBf shims.
It has good pictures, brackets, and advice on new LNB support arms.
I think the LNBf mentioned there, is probably a good choice, too.
