I get these breakups on my 622 only on Koat when they put on a news crawl at the bottom of the screen. I have not seen a news crawl on a HD program so I do no know if it does the same thing...

Yep same deal with KOAT here, and I don't need to have an HD crawl to cause it. My brother's 622 has the same issue at the same times, doesn't that almost have to be a Dish problem if KOAT OTA is fine.

Sounds like it... strange that it only does it when "Breaking News" comes up for me :)

PBS HD coming to Dish

From KNME's Web site:

"How come I don't get KNME High Definition on DISH Network or DIRECTV?

The two satellite providers don't carry any of the local stations' High Definition signals yet. Service is expected to begin in late 2006."

.....G

Dish for one seems to be only carrying the big 4 on the first round: ABC CBS NBC Fox. Here in NM the sticking point has been CBS. They don't carry second channels like 5.2 (35.2) for the PBS normal programming either.

There is really only one national PBS HD feed but neither carries it. Would the individual stations complain? Likely.

BTW, I ordered the 622. Now am I going to back down while waiting and keep the 921 for $200? Sure would like a second at a reasonable price. Would have bought the 622 for $500 except I would not get the new dish for "free." In any case, I'll return the backup 811 -K

Im gonna keep D* as a backup incase E*and Krqe can't mend fences... I bought my 622 and kept my 921, best thing I ever did as I have them both in the living room and have cables ran into my Pj room and can with a swap of cables can watch in either place. ( 921 usually hooked to the Pj room) as for my 811, I sure want to replace it to get the networks but will probably wait and see if D* offers all four of the nets...

I got the 622 for $100 than expected because on 6/9 Dish lowered the price and the trade return for 921/942 by $100. As I returned only an 811 I pay less but the 921 has less value. I cannot upgrade the 921 right away but maybe sometime in the future they will want to get them out of the field and will give a better deal.

Comments so far:
the picture may be slightly better,
the menus are a lot better, one problem with recording the title over the beginning--you cannot use the FF/RW/skip buttons while the Info is displayed,
the history/record list is useful although rather long already,
the RF outputs on one spigot added to the antenna gives a lot of choice and the RF output is nearly as good as composite but not up to component/HDMI.
Have had several spontaneous reboots and not just for the Alb. locals on 129.

Installer had to make a second trip because they thought I was returning the 921 (they had the returned 811 and took it off the books) and would not need a DPP44 for my 5 tuners and forgot about the 4th LNB at 61.5 dish that I use for ARTS and better VOOM reception. Just this minute got the second DPP separator, which they did not have in stock at installer Stockton, to free one cable for OTA. They did not have an LNB for 61.5 either. Why don't they load the truck with a second of each item? I do not know. Why do they think they know better than the order?

Only a couple more items to unload from 921 before moving to son's room. 921 works reasonably well if you auto- or force reboot ever day. Not sure when he will be ready. Now if only I can remove things fast enough to keep up with new recordings!

Respose to an E-mail I set to KRQE engineering...
There are on going negotiations with Dishnetwork about digital
carriage but I do not have a time line on when an agreement might be
reached.

Any mention of KRQE planning to pass DD5.1?

I don't see any signal strength increase on my 622, checking with the 811 showed a gain... (60 on T-27 to 70 on T-8)

Just got the HD upgrade

I just got the HD upgrade, and I have a few newbie questions...

I have the Alb/SF locals package, and I have yet to see decent PQ from the HD on these. I'm hoping that I need to do something different with my 622 settings.

Last night, I tried to watch Conan in HD, and it seemed the picture was being broadcast in a 16:9 window-box. Is this normal? The picture was very fuzzy and didn't even come close in PQ to some SD content that I have seen on other channels.

What do you set your 622 output resolution at? I would like to minimize the processing done by the 622 -- I feel my TV will do a better job.

Also, can you lock down the 622's "Format", i.e. picture aspect ratio, and let the TV do the processing for different WIDE Modes, such as Zoom, Partial Zoom, Full, etc..?

I'm happy with most of the HD that I see on other channels, the best so far seem to be HDNET and Discovery HD. Thus far, I am very disappointed with the HD locals.

I don't have a 622, but I do have the 921 from E*. Channel 4.1 KOB does not broadcast Conan in HD, so yes it does look like poor quality SD. You should take a look at the PBS HD channel 5.1 broadcast OTA on channel 35 for more HD content. Dish doesn't provide guide info for this channel, so you'll need to get guide info off the internet.

Other local stations forget to flip the switch--last night "The Italian Job" was supposed to be HD, but it was in SD locally on channel 7.1 KOAT so I didn't watch it. Also, when local stations are running weather messages, they can't do that in HD yet, so parts of programs might be in SD for that reason. We are able to get some programming in HD from the ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and WB local affiliates.
