slacker,

his point was vegas was wrong, your point is that this time vegas has the broncos as favorites, so what. they were wrong once, they can be wrong again.

ive got a thought for you, broncos are the home team. you are saying they are the team to beat. the stadium is noisy. the steelers are the 6th seed.

and you guys can only muster a 3 point spread??? seems to me vegas is speaking VOLUMES about the steelers chances!
We were only favored to beat NE by 3 also ... they had enough lunch to be happy until next Thanksgiving! I'll bet we clear 110dB ... it has been a while since a trip to the SB was online, at home. Your chance was just last year ... and they blew it.

Let me temper my statements by letting you know that the Pats game was an anomaly. They will win it all next year.

This week is an easy one

The toughest teams win. Seattle is full of pansies and Carolina is gonna punch them in the mouth and roll.

As for Pittsburgh...I think theyre tough but stupid. Fortunately they dont have to come to Foxboro this week and get to go play that coward Jake Plummer. Sets up for an interesting Steeler- Panther Super Bowl.

Your boys sealed their own fate, 5 turnovers, talk about cowards! They were afraid of the ball!

Steelers are dead in Denver, Ben has proven he can't hold the pressure, Jake has shown ( I admit UNBELIEVABLY) his ability to hang on the the ball, the line proven ANY running back will do, and the D that they really, really want this.

Generally it is the "better" team that is favored. They normally give 3 points for the home team, but other than that, the line should reflect the "better" team. As the money comes in, the line shifts so ultimately the same amount of money is wagered on either side by the time the game starts.
Very, very true. That is why a game day bet is a suckers bet. Vegas doesn' lose.

No one to the panthers ... man, they are getting scary after a quiet season. I think they will off Seattle and I thought they had no chance against Da Bears. Back to the settelers ... they are so dead ... LOL!

The Steelers are going to walk all over Denver. The Black and Gold fought hard all season long with a tough schedule, and what did Denver do. The only reason they ended the season 13 & 3 was that after week 7 their schedule was a cake walk. One of the easist in the AFC. They didn't even play Indy or Pittsburgh during the regular season. The only team worth mentioning after week 7 is Kansas City, and the Broncos lost that one. My local high school football team would have done alright with that schedule.

All the boys from steel town have to do on Sunday, is play like last Sunday. The horsies won't have a chance. Trust me this won't be a repeat of 1998.

That cold Boston weather either froze your brain, or you ate some bad lobster. New England did not play well this year even when they were mostly healthy at the end of the season. Watch out for the Dolphins and don't forget about the Jets. The Jets were decimated by injuries this year.

My personal theory is that both the Bengals and the Patriots lost their final regular season game in an effort to not play the Steelers in the first round. If the Steelers would have lost their final game, KC would be in the playoffs. So the Bengals lost on purpose and hoped that the Steelers would lose or the Patriots would win. This would make the Patriots the 3rd seeded team and play either KC or Pittsburgh. Meanwhile the Patriots were quite aware of what the Bengals were doing, so they threw the final game of the season in order to hold on to the 4th seed and avoid playing Pittsburgh in the first round. Why else would they let the third string QB take some snaps and eventually lose to Miami? The Patriots were hoping to get by Denver and get a home game with the Steelers knowing that the Steelers were much better than a 6th seeded team.

You are so full of crap........oh wait a minute, my knee-jerk response to Pats fans normally begins that way, but after reading your post, it makes a lot of sense.....you sure you are a Pats fan? :D

Youre In Denial

Full of crap? An injury riddled team finally beat themselves.

Hey, No doubt, Denver beat the Pats. Im not gonna whine about the best team not winning after years and years....and years of forcing other teams to turn the ball over...Kordell Stewart and his pics...the blocked FG for a Troy Brown to Antwan Harris TD....The Peyton "cant beat Florida when I was at Tennessee never mind winning a big game in the pros" Manning..the Pats own him.

Lets face it for anyone who says that the Pats are not the greatest NFL organization of the century is just living in DENIAL.

And next year when they are healthy..and they dont have to use WRs at corner. And they dont go through 4 safetys..and their running backs and O-line are healthy they will be back. MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE they were even able to compete with Denver.

But this week Pittsburgh will SMASH Denver...Jake is awful and Carolina is Gonna stick their foot in Hasslebacks" we want the ball and we are gonna win " mouth!!!

And Another thing Pittsburgh

Im tired of the Pats were afraid to play Pittsburgh....I cant remember Pitt beating New England in a meaningful game.

Year after year the Pats walked into your city..ate your food ...nailed your wives and then marched onto the Super Bowl. That goes all the way back to 96 when you guys came here. For ten years the Pats havent lost a meaningful game to the Steelers and now they were afraid? If I remember correctly they came into your house THIS YEAR put you to bed.

I stand by my original premise...tough but STUPID!!!

How would my statements be more plausable if I were not from PA? My statement contained facts, doesn't matter if I am from PA or not.

Don't worry about insulting me, I can take a good insult in a good debate. :) Also no thanks needed, we were just doing our job. :up

The game that the Patriots won this year was a meaningless game and yes, they beat Pittsburgh with a field goal in the final seconds, but we beat the Patriots last year on their home field in a meaningless game as well. The Patriots have definitely been the dominate team in this decade. Likewise the Cowboys ruled the 90's, the 49ers ruled the 80's and the Steelers ruled the 70's. My point . . . each team eventually hit a dry spell. The Patriots time has come and gone. Next year your division will have stiffer competition from Miami and the Jets.

By the way, I'm not a huge Bill Cowher fan either. In the past 12 years he has taken the Steelers to the AFC chapionship game and has only one the AFC once. After last year's beating by the Patriots, I wanted the Rooney's to fire the guy, I'm tired of seeing this team lamost make it to the Superbowl.

By the way, if the Steelers make it to the Super Bowl, and if they win the Super Bowl, I believe Ben Rothlisberger will become the youngest QB to ever win a Super Bowl - a title currently held by Tom Brady.

Go Red Sox!

Home Not Always Sweet in AFC Title Games
By EDDIE PELLS

DENVER - Home-field advantage. From the time training camp begins, the good teams talk about it, play for it, stress over it. They say they'll do anything to have it when this week - the week when trips to the Super Bowl are won and lost - finally comes around.
Funny thing is, home-field advantage in the AFC doesn't give a team anything better than a coin flip's chance of winning the conference championship game. In fact, worse than a coin flip.

In six of the last 11 AFC title games, the road team has won. Nobody has played a more important role in that surprising trend than the Pittsburgh Steelers. With a 1-4 record at home in the AFC title game since 1995, the Steelers have a legitimate reason to say they're happy to be on the road this time, Sunday at Denver, with a trip to the Super Bowl at stake.

"We've been underdogs pretty much every week since we got into this thing," Steelers coach Bill Cowher said. "We don't take ourselves too seriously."

Don't believe it.

Including playoffs, they are 15-3 on the road the last two years. No team in the NFL has a better record than that. They are trying to become the first No. 6 seed to make the Super Bowl and the first team since the 1985 Patriots to win three road playoff games en route to the Super Bowl (Carolina also has that chance in the NFC.)

The Steelers are built for the road, with a pounding running game they use 57 percent of the time, which figures to cut down on the number of plays that need to be changed at the line and the number of overall mistakes.

They are also a team that, for whatever reason, has had trouble getting it done in the biggest games at home, with the Terrible Towels flying and the expectations soaring.

"It was kind of more of a distraction than anything; more ticket requests, a lot of people want to come and watch," receiver Hines Ward said. "With us going on the road, we really don't have to worry about that too much. We just go out there and just concentrate on football."

Last week, the Broncos talked about what a big deal home-field advantage would be. It was, after all, their first home playoff game since their last Super Bowl year, in 1998. They used home field to beat the Patriots and were stunned when Pittsburgh won at Indianapolis, ensuring them another game at Invesco Field.

But while it was something to celebrate last week, the Broncos are downplaying it this week.

"I think sometimes you get teams who are playing at home and they think since they have that edge, they don't even have to go out and play," coach Mike Shanahan said. "You've still got to go out and play."

Denver is one of the four teams to hand Pittsburgh a home loss in the title game, 24-21 back in the 1997 season.

The Broncos are three-point favorites in this game. Three points is the amount oddsmakers normally give a team with a good home-field advantage. In other words, if there was no home-field advantage, this would be considered an even game.

And why not? The quarterbacks are similar. Jake Plummer and Ben Roethlisberger have turned their games around and taken their teams this far by eliminating mistakes and effectively managing their offenses. Plummer only threw seven interceptions this season. Roethlisberger threw nine (in only 12 games).

For the second-year Pittsburgh quarterback, these playoffs have been very unlike last year's playoffs, when he threw five interceptions in two games. He has thrown one in two games so far this year.

"I want to come out and take care of the things I have to deal with," Roethlisberger said. "As a quarterback, if you do that, and don't turn the ball over and you do the things you're supposed to do, you give yourself and your team a better chance of winning the game."

The running attacks are similar. Both teams split their carries. Denver gives it to Mike Anderson most of the time and Tatum Bell for a change of pace. For Pittsburgh, it's Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis. Bettis' career almost ended on the infamous fourth-quarter fumble in Indy last week, but he got a reprieve and still has a chance to play in the Super Bowl in his hometown of Detroit.

"If I'm the head coach and I'm down on the goal line, a thousand times out of a thousand I'd run the same play and give him the ball," Steelers linebacker Clark Haggans said.

The defenses have been among the best over the last two years. Both figure to blitz a lot.

Champ Bailey is the big playmaker for Denver. Troy Polamalu of Pittsburgh is considered one of the biggest playmakers on defense that the league has seen in the last decade.

"I'm not a strong safety or free safety, but if I did play that position, that is the way I would want to play," Plummer said. "You have to see where he is and someone has to account for him, because he can cause you some trouble."

Cowher and Shanahan. Ward and Rod Smith. Polamalu and John Lynch.

In so many ways, this game looks so even - the kind that could be decided by a bounce here, a break there.

Or by home-field advantage?

Neither team is banking on it.

"I just think when you prepare well and believe in yourself," Bailey said, "it doesn't really matter where you play."

Steeler Nation

As for the Tom Brady thing...Im not one of those Brady is better than Manning or Brady is the best QB in the NFL.

Brady is only gets the accolades because the TEAM is great. Without that defense Brady doesnt get any credit. If KC had the Pats Defense Trent Green would be getting the same praise.

Its all about the team. Its about guys restructuring contracts. Guys taking less money to play here. Guys shutting their mouths and just playing football. WRs playing defensive back. Coaches and front office people taking less money and staying. (Scott Pioli)

The Patriots reign will end when the players stop believe in this system.

This is a time for Pittsburgh celebration. Ive sat there on the edge of my seat for years rooting for my team and now its Pitts time to do the same. I go to Vegas every year and watch the game there and am sorry to say it wont be as fun without my Pats.

This is Pitts time ..I hope the game is a good one..(As you can tell Im no Denver fan..they own the Pats and Ive always hated Shannon Sharpe even worse since I have to hear his gibberish every week.) So I hope Steeler nation gets to watch Troy and Jerry pop the Broncos in the Kisser cuz if they do they will win the Super Bowl.

Enjoy it til 2007!

"Someone call the National Guard, because we are killin the Patriots!!!":D Certainly this is the one you are talking about? LOL, I remember this like it was yesterday. I would love to see Shannon Sharpe and Mike Matusow (Mike the Mouth, a pro card player) sit down and have a "yo mama" contest! Somebody would die.

Game day is upon us. I think it will be a great contest on both side of the NFL. While I surly want the Broncs to win, I just hope we get to see a good game.
