Hi All,

I have been experimenting on & off with my Traxis 2500 since October 2005. (Thanks again to Iceburg & the gang, it is working perfectly). I have since decided that I am definitely interested in FTA, especially the impromptu feeds I occsionally find, but the Traxis makes it diffucult to catch these.

I had considered applying to the "what's up there" forum, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. Instead, I am thinking about a Coolsat 5000. I have a feeling that a unit that supports blind scan would be the way to go.
Iceburg, I know you have reviewed the Traxis 2500 and the Coolsat 5000 so you are experienced with both. Any thoughts on this? I know it's like comparing a Vega to a Corvette, but do you think this would make finding these things simpler? Feel free to say what you think... No holds barred.

If anyone else has any thoughts on this, I would appreciate your input as well.

Thanks,

Jim

never reviewed a Traxis 2500 but have worked with one before :)

The Coolsat is great just on the basis of the blind scan. I've worked with this one for a little while now and its great. Go to the satellite, hit blind scan satellite, go grab a pop or a snack, come back and see all the feeds out there. Yes some days are slow (like today) but most nights the blind scan gets a workout :)

The Traxis has a 1st class picture, one of the best I have seen in ANY receiver. But no blind scan. The new Traxis 3500 out soon WILL have blind scan :)

Ice, (Pete, chime in if you like!)

Would you say it would be worth it to trade in a Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra for the Coolsat 5000? I know the blind scan is faster, but is there really any other reason for "trading up?" I know, I know, slightly off-topic. I am sure there is a person or two out there that is asking the same question based on this post, though.

Cheers!

I'm glad I got into this after blind scan made its debut, the thought of no blindscan is unbearable.
I got a station 2 days ago that was really strange.
It picked up TNT, I went back the next day and it was picking up the SCi FI channel, then it went blank.
I suppose its some sort of test feed or something.
Though I have been seeing notices on cable at home on the sci fi channel about them changing their stations satellite and channel info.
I doubt they will ever go FTA, but its always good to dream.

The Coolsat 5000 arrived today, and I've pulled the Traxis 2500 after moving to my true south satellite. My problem is that I don't understand how to set it up for USALS. diseq seems to work fine though.

How should I do this? True south is AMC9 (48342 zip).

Don't have that receiver.....

Usually its done in the antenna setup screen under "Positioner"
Then you enter your Latitude and Longitude, and the longitude of your true south satellite store as your ref. position, and you are done.

Here is your Lat. and Long.

go to the motorized section and select your true south. Enter your info at the bottom where it says antenna position
