We currently have 2 of the VIP 722 receivers and are looking to add either an HD receiver or an HD receiver with a DVR (single tuner). What would my options be for adding one of these (we will choose which to get based on the price).

Thanks!

Hi and :welcome to Sat Guys! I would be happy to help you with any questions you have about upgrading to another HD receiver. For a single tuner, you can do a ViP211 and then add an EHD for a one time $40.00 fee which will activate DVR functions to this receiver. This receiver will cost $7.00 more a month. Then you can get a VIP612 DVR which will cost $10.00 more a month and if you do not already have a DVR on your account a $6.00 monthly DVR fee. If you would like us to review your account and see what costs if any would be involved in upgrading receivers on your account. Thanks!

One HD tv no dvr = 211K = + $7/month

One HD tv w/ Dvr = 612 = +$10/month (2 tuners/1tv)

One HD tv on a 211k with external hard drive ( one time $40 activation fee) = +$7/month. (one tuner/1 tv)

You have to buy the external Hard drive, there are plenty of threads on here talking about this same subject.

just a slight correction .. the 211k has one satellite tuner and one OTA tuner. So if you're in an area that you can get locals via an Antenna (upto 70~80 miles with good antenna) you would have the ability with the External Hard Drive .. to record two things at once.. one from the Satellite, one from the OTA.

The 211k is really nice as an add on item .. we have ours in the play room, allows us to have Wii on the widescreen while we watch something on the older 27" tube.. otherwise watching TV if not playing Wii on the widescreen set.

Since you already pay a DVR fee the difference between a 211 & a 612 is $3 a month. The 612 can record 2 sat & 1 OTA program and as noted it is designed for one TV (kinda like your 722 when its in single mode)

The 211k is a nice unit. I use one and you can have 1 sat & 1 OTA program going at same time. There is no DVR fee so its just $7 a month but to use it with a hard drive (highly recommend it) you pay a one time $40 fee but it covers as many hard drives as you want and if you add another 211k down the road (or go with one to replace the 722 and its $17 extra receiver fee) that $40 one time fee covers ALL the 211's on the account

Switch box undetected, signal loss, etc.

For HD programming which is better 129° or 61.5°
