Adding free & legal IPTV HLS m3u8 feeds to Edision OS MIO 4K

It's up and down for me -- I loaded some (legal of course) News Channels and sometimes they play just fine, sometimes they stutter and die after a few minutes. And, honestly, the IPTV add-on for the Mio is quite bad so I've only used it a few times.

I'm also using Ethernet.

"IPTV add-on?" What's that?

I don't use any sort of "add-on" to watch my iptv channels. I have them in a 'Favorite' channel bouquet, and simply click on them like any other channel. They come up and play from there. Nothing special about it...

This one for starters:

I mostly run m3u files on a USB drive now, but for awhile I tried this. It was okay, but names of the channels rarely worked.

Dreambox Edit can be used to add these to a channel bouquet.

Pull up the bouquet you want them in.
Right click in the list.
Go down to "IPTV and other streaming services" and click on Add

A new window pops up.
Give the channel a name of your choice
Paste in a working URL that you copied from the list linked in previous posts or from some other source.
Change the Service Type to "0"
Click Add

Save your changes and send the list back to your STB.

I just added about a dozen of them this way, and I can play them all just like any other scanned in or manually added channels.

tested successfully with a few international channels. The Dreambox option is by far the easiest as you can just copy/paste on the PC. I can even record, and the file appears on the hard drive with the .stream extension. I can play it in VLC but get no sound

So I have an OS Mio 4K and a OS Mio 4K+. I have a list of several IP channels loaded on both. Last night the OS Mio 4K + would no longer play most of the channels. They still play just fine on the other box though. I tried rebooting the box as well as reloading the channels. Neither of those things seemed to remedy the situation. Anyone have any ideas of other fixes to try?

Did you check to make SURE it's still connected to your network, and has an IP address, and internet access?

Yes. It is still connected to the internet. A few of the IP channels still play just fine. It's just that most of them don't want to play at all. I did just happen to think though that the box with the issue is still operating with TNAP 2. Maybe tomorrow I'll load the latest version in a different slot and see if they will play then.

I loaded version 3.2 in another slot and they all play there, so I'm going to say problem solved, or at least a work-around found, for now.

I know this is a long shot and I haven't played with it, but are there any plugins that might allow it to record from the feeds on that website?

I'm able to set recordings for IPTV channels through the TNAP 3.2 WebIF screen once I have them entered into a "IPTV" bouquet, and they record fine. However, IF there's any buffering, or a stream break, the recording stops right there. It still SAYS it's recording at that point, but really isn't. So, as long as that doesn't happen, you are good to go.

But are you able to play it back with audio? If I'm not mistaken, when I tried, the recording did not appear on the osmio4k, however i could see it from my PC, but it only played the video, no sound

Yes, they play back complete with audio. I play them through the PVR option, just like any recording.

I tried something after getting an idea while I was adding some more IP channels to my box. It is not TV, but may be of interest to some.

I managed to add audio feeds from my local law enforcement, fire, EMS, etc. I found the stream urls on broadcastify and entered them through dreambox edit same as the TV channels. The box plays them just like any other radio service, although when tuning to one it will usually play a short, 15ish seconds, ad before playing the actual feed.

It may not be of a lot of use when someone has a local emergency, especially if power and internet are out, but it could be interesting to listen to the radio traffic when there are major events going on elsewhere in the country. Anyhow just thought I'd share in case anyone else would find it interesting.

...once I have them entered into a "IPTV" bouquet, and they record fine....

I would like to be able to record an IPTV stream.

I can't figure out how to enter an IPTV stream into a bouquet. The media player seems to be cut off from the satellite receiver side of the box. I have Mio+ with TNAP 3.2.

Create a new bouquet called "IPTV" or the like. Then check Brian's post #7 and install that add-on. When you create the channel through that app, you save it to the "IPTV" bouquet. See my post #14 & 17 for additional info.

As soon as I entered my question and read back through this thread, I discovered the info about using Add Stream URL. I've added it and now am working out the wrinkles. I think I will get it working now.

Using the Add Stream URL app, I tried entering the IPTV link and it didn't work.

For example, for NASA which I know works, I entered its link address as an http: address. Am I doing it wrong?

I must type each address in using the remote so it's tough to try variations and experiment too much.

So you must install a physical file on your local drive for Edision to open? I wanted to simply point Edision to the location on the Internet the way a PC works.

Incompatible Channels work around Just Because....

TNAP 4.2 test images available soon
