Actuator Frustrations

I have a question about this voltage measurement. Do I understand right that you would leave every thing connected at the dish then disconnect all wires in the house at the receiver and motor controller and look for voltage on the wires in the house?
Yes that is correct. Put one test lead to your outlet ground and the other to each wire in turn, and note the readings.

- - Something else is weird that i noticed.. I don't know if this is part of the same issue or another issue altogether. I noticed i can move from sat A to sat B and i see the dish move, but it doesnt apparently park in the right place, because no signal, then i can move back to the original position sat A, and i get a signal, and then tell it again to go to sat B and this time it tracks right to sat B and i get a strong signal. What the heck is that all about???
I think I had similar problem with the S9 and a couple of channels. Move from sat a channel to sat b channel and got nothing. Move back, and back again, it's there. Figured out that if I were to move from sat a to sat b, then select another channel on it, wait for a picture, then select the channel I wanted it would be there. Wait, if I go to the sat with KBRK, ME and Movies, I have to do that now if the channel it lands on is one of these. Dunno if this is what's 'up'
Yeah, measure voltage from the sat cable(s) to your homes electrical ground. (hopefully your outlets ground pins are '2 code', really grounded)

I also experience a problem with only the ABC feeds on both 95w an 99w not displaying after a motor move with the Amiko mini HD SE, GEOSATpro micro HD, Manhattan 1933 and the Openbox S9 (all ALI chipset STBs). To reliably tune ABC, another transponder must be tuned first such as Movies! This is a little different than not landing on the satellite, as the transponder will show a perfect Signal Quality reading, but not decode. It remains either a black screen with no audio or spurts of garbled audio every second or two.

Had that same issue last night when I wanted to watch Kimmel. Had not noticed this before. This was using an AzBox Ultra. I switched to a channel on 97w then back to the caribbean mux on 99w and it worked perfectly as usual. Strange. maybe I'll have to do that voltage test too! :)

OK, I'm a little confused. The "Movies!" channel on 99W you guys are referring to is actually "This" right?

Taking a multimeter to the AC outlet serving your satellite receiver is extremely important.
Out in the country, strange dumb ass things can be found picking up after handymen acting as electricians. Start with checking Hot, Neutral and Ground , and the potential between each.
After confirming there is no voltage (AC first, then DC), check resistance between all combinations with the ohmmeter section. Scary things can happen coming off a typical 220 volt AC circuit normally used for dryers and stoves. If you are taking such a circuit and pulling off 110 VAC, follow your color codes and measurements. I once plugged in a soldering iron into a 110 volt AC wall outlet and immediately fried it, because an "electrician" before me had wired it in a way that it was at 220 volts AC potential between hot and ground. I saw another satellite dealer go through at least four of their deluxe DX DSB-800 satellite receivers and burn them to pieces because the grounded wiring connection used on a proper grounded plug fired 220 volts into the receiver. Similar to above. No problem using DX Antenna's most basic receiver, which did not have a ground. He was only plugging into 110 volts with Hot and Neutral, with no miswired ground connection to double the fun. All it would have taken is to do some proper voltage and continuity measurements in the first place at a new installation, but instead he was using high end receivers as expensive fuses to test the same.
All of these lessons are probably even more critical with motor drive systems because your source voltage and grounding needs to be completely in order to start out with. Every other mechanical problem such as wiring, counting devices in the motor drive, will only add to the fun. At least you have a fighting chance if you inspect the outlet and your basic wiring like an electrician, before putting these sometimes complex systems in contact with your AC power.
