HD is always my 1st choice, but I enjoy the different kinds of content on Voom that is not available otherwise. It would be an improvement if they updated it with fresh stuff a little more often though.

Because they've been hiding for the last two years and now that D* finally added some HD channels they just want to brag about it.
Do they realize they are taking jabs at people based on the satellite provider they choose?
I remember having arguments in high school that were more appropriate.
Voom required the package to be in the base HD offering. Never mind grandfathereds.
I would watch Equator in SD, and do in fact watch similar programs in SD. But it's so much better in HD that I'll pass up some SD programs like that, figuring there will be something similar on Equator.

While I agree with you - can't that be said of everything on each provider? How much does anyone watch of the channels we get? 10-20 maybe? I know my viewing is very selective and there are many channels I never watch

I try not to watch any SD anymore, so the primary question of this thread is rough for me to answer. I'll try to answer it this way: If HD DID NOT exist, yes I would def watch Voom.
To TulsaCoker's comment about it being funny that when people talk about Voom, that they only talk about watching a couple of channels, and not the other 13...to be fair, if you look at Voom as a package, watching 2, 3 or even 5 (I watch 5 daily) out of 15 is probably a far greater percentage than the percentage of what most people probably watch regularly out of the AT100, 200 or 250 packages.
I watch 33% of Voom's VERY varied channel offerings every day. Others days I watch some of the other 10. I don't much care for kung fu or horror, so I almost never watch Kung Fu or Monsters channels. But Kung Fu/Monsters are many SatGuy's favorite channels.

The OP'w question is based on a fundamental lack of understanding. I don't watch Equator for the HD, yet HD is required for the programming to really be appreciated. When I say I would watch less Voom if it were in SD, it does not mean I only watch it because I am craving HD. It is because much of the programming was meant to be seen in HD. I get a hell of a lot of HD that I don't watch, because the programming does not interest me.
Now ask me if I would watch more Cartoon Network if they stretched it out and made it look even worse than SD? The answer is no. Nor would I spend all my time making sure people who subscribe to different provider know I finally feel god about being a D* subscriber. Out of curiosity, do you walk into restaurants you don't like and pester the customers there about whether they really like eating there? Why do you even care?

The last few remarks about the fact that all of us only watch a subset are right on the mark. I just wanted to add that some of the VOOM channels, like Equator provide services that are unique in SD or HD. Equator can be a lot like the fishtank channel with nice restful background music and images. This is especially true when they are doing the flyover stuff.
My wife is quite ill, and Equator acts a lot like the rest/meditation channels that they provide in the hospital. As such, I would purchase VOOM in any format, just for this channel. I know that is a niche need, but so is everybody's.

Please explain how the Voom channels in the HD pack are priced differently than the Discovery channels in the HD pack. Did E* make them mandatory because they suck? In fact, why are almost all channels bundled into packs? Is it because they are no good? If the channels you watch are so great, why are they bundled?
It is true I don't watch all the Voom channels on a regular basis. I don't think I watch 16 channels TOTAL on a regular basis. A good package offers people choices. You seem to believe that a good package would only contain the shows I want to watch, and any package that offers more than that is bad.
I think you can criticize Voom for having too much programming when you can claim you can state you regularly enjoy every channel in your package.
My answer depends on how the SD content would be presented. If it is presented OAR, then I would probably watch much of the same content that I do now. There's a lot of content there that is not otherwise available in the US market that I invite friends over to see. That it is in HD makes it all the more impressive.
For many of the new "simulcast" channels that have been added (Discovery, TLC, History), I often select the SD PQ crushed version over the aspect crushed HD version. For me, an "HD" channel that displays 4:3 content stretched is a double dammit as it takes up bandwidth and I find it uncomfortable to watch.

Voom use to be a seperate add on package to the HD package for I think 10 dollars. Similar to what Directv is doing to MGM, Smithsonian and others. By E* making it apart of the 20 dollar HD package they are in fact subsidizing by making all HD sub pay . Very different Sapient to Discovery.
It's interesting to me how much Voom envy occurs on the part of some D* subscribers. For some reason, they enjoy bashing some 24/7 HD channels that apparently don't have any content they would enjoy, while at the same time defending some HD listed channels with only a percentage of actual HD.

Really guys, as I said in my original post I was just wondering if our watching habits have changed just to see stuff in HD that we may or may not normally have tuned into. I personally have not. I watch what I like and consider the HD a bonus. I don't think that I tune in to shows just because they are in HD. Just wondering where Voom landed with this in mind. So if that Kung Foo movie that was on on the Kung Foo channel was on a non HD channel, would any of you that watched it have watched it any way? Does that make sense?
For those who know little to none about how Voom ended up on E*: Voom should probably be considered a little differently than any other 'packages' of channels that E* or anyone else carries, since V* (Voom) used to be its own DBS service at 61.5. When E* bought the V* Rainbow 1 satellite, they also bought a 20%(?) stake in Voom Networks, and entered into a carriage agreement to carry some of the Voom Network channels.
This is why I think its a little different than E* having to agree to take all the channels ABC says E* has to carry to carry ESPN and ESPN2, for example.
