A series of scheduling moves is turning ABC into a decidedly less comedic place.

The network has pulled its Monday-night duo of "Emily's Reasons Why Not" and "Jake in Progress," each of which has aired a total of one time this season, until further notice. "Hope & Faith" is also getting benched for the next several weeks in favor of a longer "Dancing with the Stars" results show. The moves leave ABC with but three half-hour comedies on its schedule this week -- Tuesday-night standbys "According to Jim" and "Rodney" and "Crumbs," which follows "Dancing" on Thursday. The Wednesday duo of "George Lopez" and "Freddie," pre-empted this week for a "Lost" rerun, is slated to return Jan. 25.
"Emily's Reasons" and "Jake in Progress," single-camera shows about very attractive people (Heather Graham and John Stamos, respectively) who nonetheless have romance issues, debuted Jan. 9 to fairly small audiences of 6.2 million and 5.6 million people. ABC pulled the two shows this week in favor of a repeat of "The Bachelor's" season premiere, which fared a little better.
Now the shows will sit out at least the next two weeks, to be replaced by another "Bachelor" rerun on Jan. 23 and an "InStyle Celebrity Weddings" special the following week. What's more, Variety reported this week that production on "Emily's Reasons Why Not" has stopped after six episodes -- never a good sign for a show. "Hope & Faith," meanwhile, looks like it won't be back until "Dancing with the Stars" ends its run. ABC has expanded the Friday results show from 30 minutes to an hour for the next five weeks after earning solid ratings from an hour-long show on Friday, Jan. 13.
