Alright, I just replaced my circa 1820's hd tivo with a new hr21-700 and a 5lnb dish. Here's the rub...I am not receiving a bunch of HD channels. I am getting the 771 message.

A partial list of the channels I am not getting includes:

202 cnnhd
218 BTNH
219 BTNH
229 HGTV
242 USAHD
247 TBSHD
248 FXHD
255 MGMHD
265 AEHD

I stopped checking there but I assume there is more. It gets more interesting though -- On any of these channels, if I go to setup to check signal strength, the channel suddenly comes through. For example, if I am getting a message 771 on HGTV, and go to setup while on that channel to check signal strength, the program will appear by the time I exit the menu system.

Any ideas? What should I check to give you guys more information? What have i left out that you need to know? Thanks in advance.--Andy

are the bbc converters installed on the back of the reciever

yes, I have done a couple of restarts. Here is a wrinkle that may have some value: If i swap the lines to the the tuners, I still get the 771's though I suddenly don't have the "signal strength" fix. Swap the lines back and I can view any station after viewing signal strength while on the station.

I am befuddled. Fortunately y'all are all geniuses right? Thanks again for any help.

no multi-switch. only one tuner. Does the signal coming through after I check signal strength make any since? To my novice brain, this symptom makes me think it is a problem in the box. I mean, the signal is getting there, its just like the tuner doesn't see it until I tell it to. I have a tech coming out tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted as to the problem. Unless, of course, the problem is so simple as to make me look stupid. Then you will never hear from me again!
