I am trying to provide a customer with a better Universal Remote to operate TV2 on a 622/625. I tried a Harmony 880, and learned that the RF frequency does not allow the "recording" and other command signals to be utilized at the TV2 location (TV1 downstairs-TV2 upstairs)

I would like something similar to the Harmony 880, with the fancy LCD interface. Any suggestions or recommendations for a "different" fancy remote, or some type of "signal sender" to be used on TV2 upstairs???

The Harmony 890 is an RF remote. I haven't tried one for TV2 but have been considering it myself.

Many have written that it's cheaper to buy an 880 & a repeater system than to purchase an 890, and the plus is you are then set up if you change remotes in the future. I think there are some reasonable repeaters out there that convert IR to RF.

Check out remotecentral.com. They have a great forum on all brands of remotes, and also an installers page.

If you end up buying a Harmony - do a price search on pricegrabber.com. I have twice bought Harmony remotes from Dell, but only by going through pricegrabber. Dell offers far superior prices on pricegrabber than they do on their own website. My last 880 was $120 with free shipping (Nov. 2006).

As far as I know, there is not universal remote capable of learning Dish's proprietary RF signals. Apparently, Dish is working on a solution that would accept IR signals to control the dual tuner boxes in Dual mode. I don't know if that is through a software update or a add-on hardware. If they finally do this, you'd need to get the IR signals repeated from the room to the box.

Next Generation Home Products makes a neat remote control extender that converts your IR remote to UHF. It has a rechargable battery transmitter that goes in your RF remote and a receiver that goes near your tv. I think gosatellite ( gold soponser ) may have them . If not Solid Signal has them.

Thought I would send a response again here. Does anyone else know of a "quality" Universal Remote to use on a 622/625 for TV2?? Ya know, something like the Harmony line....that will transmit on the RF frequency and allow recording to be made??

Inquiring minds want to know...

I thought I answered your question already?

No. No one makes such a beast in the universal type. Dish carries the only package. It'd be nice to have the universal companies license Dish's RF and sell it.

Sorry.... No such animal !!!

I've gone through this today with TechSupport from both DishNet and Logitech. The 890 (which I currently own) Advanced Universal Remote is both an IR and RF signal transmitter. What they (Logitech) don't tell you is that the RF signal it produces is in the 908.42 MHz range and will only communicate with the RF Wireless Extender (which converts the signal to IR) and Z-Wave compatible equipment (i.e. lights, window shades, drapes, etc.) controllers. The DishNet remote (IR/UHF Pro 6.3) operates at two frequencies; A = 374 MHz and B= 369 MHz. There are no secret codes or proprietary programs on the DishNet remote. My setup is a ViP622 in the living room in Dual Mode. TV1 obviously in the living room and TV2 in my dads room 50 ft away (another part of the house). I hooked up the RF wireless extender near the 622 and all controls work... with one small problem.... I'm controlling TV1 not TV2. So if anyone out there wants to design a receiver/transmitter that can take commands at 908.42 MHz and transmit them at either A or B frequencies... I'll be first inline to buy it.

I still have to use the DishNet remote to control the 622 from my fathers room.

This is my first post... I hope I didn't ruffle any feathers,

Bingo. There's no universal remote that can "learn" RF signals. The RF spectrum is so loosely defined as far as remotes go that it's not going to happen.

Dish needs to get an IR solution for TV2.

uh, 722k. ir solution covered in that. it was in scotts posts from that convetion he went to. but we dont know how "soon" it will come.

Got HDTV, now what?

Loose signal overnight....again.
