I mentioned this elsewhere, but I guess I can pick up some of those FTA music stations on EchoStar 7 with my Universal LNB.

I didn't think this was possible, but I'm happy to be shown otherwise. How common is this? Would it work on other satellites, and would I have to change my LNB setup on my receiver?

This was a pleasant surprise for me, and I'd be happy to find some other FTA on DSS birds if possible with my current setup :)

Here in the metro area I am able to pick up Nasa from the 119w satellite with a regular Standard KU LNBF, but I can't pick up Gol TV from 110 using it. I think it depends on adjacent satellites, but I was pretty happy to get Nasa at the time.

Now that you mention it, I remember getting a few things off Dish Network with my Invacom when I started out. It was pretty hit or miss though-mostly audio channels.

a Universal LNB goes up to 12.75MHZ, whereas a Standard LNB stops at 12.2MHZ

I know when I had a Universal and would scan AMC9 (83), I got most of the frequencies on 82 also....
