Things have definitely changed. It's important to note that only about 8% of Major League players are African American. Averaged by team, that's only 2 players for every 25 man roster.
Considering that a higher percentage of the Sox' roster is made up of minorities this year with Latinos and Asians, they are hardly "too white" any more....
And I will give you that, but because Rosenthal said something negative, IN HIS OPINION, about your team....does NOT make him suddenly a hack writer or someone without credibility. You show me WHAT write has NOT written something negative about ANY TEAM at one point or another, and I will show you a writer living in LA-LA Land. HE is has a history of writing negative things about YOUR TEAM, then he may have a hidden agenda....but your sample size is ONE story....that hardly makes him a writer with a credibility problem.
All that changed after a group led by John Henry purchased the team in 2002. The Sox established diversity and community-outreach programs, and the team's message of inclusion extends to the clubhouse, where manager Terry Francona fosters a diverse, tolerant environment. The Sox's 2004 World Series championship team was an exuberant mishmash of cultures and personalities.

Salsa,
you had a point about the Red Sox having race issues from 30-40 years ago. I agree with that.
But what Rosenthal wrote last October was irresponsible. Like Cosmo said, only 8% of MLB is African-American.
What made that column reprehensible,IMO, was the fact the Red Sox were the defending World Champs. I could see if the column was about the Royals or Padres that suck every year, AND they were "too white", or we're talking about the Red Sox from the '60's, '70's and even '80's.
Isn't the purpose of fielding a team to win a championship?
How can ANYONE question how a team is constructed after said team won a championship?
For you who doubted what I posted early this year about more dirt on Arod. You were wrong. I was right, at least my friend was.
The Bronx is burning up over red-hot news reports linking Yankee nemesis Alex Rodriguez to an escort service used by disgraced former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

He was even hated at Hooters, where he tipped the minimum 15%, the book says.
Well Well Well. Look at this. "A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez," by Sports Illustrated reporter Selena Roberts, One interesting part of the book is that the Yankees clubhouse suspected Rodriguez of using banned substances while with the club.
No way!!! Arod Lied again? I don't believe it.
And Yikes. the book also includes allegations of Rodriguez tipping pitches to opponents during lopsided games.

Huh? Why would he be doing that? Does the book accuse him of wagering money on games? Why else would he want to give an opponent an unfair edge?

Rodriguez expected players he helped would do the same for him when he was having an off night and needed to get his batting average up and it wouldn't affect the outcome of the game.
