A "Know Nothing" needs help

Though the only time I unplugged my receiver - I came back and plugged it in after 8 days and the HD crashed! Now I leave it powered up all the time.

It's the age. My first 7 series DVRs were ok. After the first one went, they have gone bad more frequently.

You can argue the point all day long. It's fine with me. You have an awesome HD that would survive a natural disaster. I was just trying to help the OP by letting him know that his DVR could be replaced with the DHPP.
