Satellite Firms Eye Free Digital Recorders-Murdoch

News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch said on Monday the satellite television industry is likely to offer personal video recorders for free or at very low cost within a year, as it fights to retain subscribers and win customers from the cable industry.

Personal video recorders (PVRs), such as those made by TiVo (news - web sites) Inc., let users customize television viewing and digitally record programing on a computer hard drive in a set-top box.

Hmm, free HD DVR. Sounds good to me.

not free yet but you won't find it any cheaper...

Not free yet but you won't find it any cheaper...

I know of a dealer that offers $49.99 Directv Tivo packages and you get:

Tivo + up to 4 non-Tivo receivers
free install
free shipping after rebate
free dvd player (yes, a free dvd player)
free hbo for 3 months

Plus on top of their advertised prices I can tell you how to get $25 more back as an extra rebate. Please PM or send me e-mail for details (my e-mail is visible in my profile at this forum).
