A&E "HD" - Worthless

A&E matters little to me. They censor their programming. I'm not too keen on watching some network that has set themselves up to "protect" me from material that THEY determine I shouldn't be exposed to.

Take Gene Simmons Family Jewels for example. They may air a repeat episode and it will be shown in HD. Then when a new episode comes on, it is usually shown in SD, with black bars on the sides, top, and bottom.....

Last night's new episode at 9:00 pm eastern was broadcast in HD. Actually the first time I've seen a new episode in HD......

Has anyone ever thought that maybe all these "new" hd channelse are doing things like this, showing HD stuff when and if they have it (just bc hbo, stars, ect has shown the same move in hd, dosent mean a&e has it, or access to or would spend the cash to aquire it) and sd stuff all outher times, while the extra (if any) money peing paid for the hd feed is going towards buying those new hd cameras to shoot their series in hd, or to aquire hd movies/versions of items they currently show?

While yes its unfair to call it an hd channel when theres not alot of hd on it yet. But at least its another channel we have, and a&e has the channel up and can show everything hd when they have it, instead of having all this hd programming and spent all this money, only to have no one want to take their feed.

If E* had unlimited capacity I'd say fine, but they don't so why waste the space?

To those of you that don't use the HD A&E, you are totally missing the point that "partial zoom" to 16:9 is a better picture than ANY mode from the SD channel. And if you hate zoom, 4:3 is better in HD than in SD.

Doh!

There's no point in having an HD version of the broadcast if less than 10% of the content is HD. Partial zoom 16:9 is not HD.

Well or any TV Service Provider is not at fault when it comes to something like this. It's on the Network's end if they don't broadcast things in HD which not every channel will have things in HD all of the time. If folks want more HD from a channel they should be E-mail that channel in this case A&E telling them to add more HD Content.

Basically, I am begining to think all some people around here care to do is complain no matter what e* or d* does. It will never be enough or good enough to make some of them happy.

Yeah True! Folks just need to make sure to bark and the right tree and on this its not Dish it's A&E. :)

I haven't watched A&E in awhile, but I did watch King of Cars (1st-2nd seasons) and I do remember those being in HD. But if none of their other original programming is in HD, thats got to suck.

That's correct. i have no problems with E* in this issue, it's all A&E. And now that the channel is there, it won't go away.

Please make no mistake, E* isn't at fault here, nor do I have any issues with upconverted material when it's not available in HD. However, A&E doesn't seem to be able to flip the switch when their programming is available in HD.

Gene Simmons last night was a great example. The first episode I caught was a newer one (June I believe), and was in SD. Immediately following was an episode from May, which was shown in HD! It's incredibly frustrating to try setting recordings for what you believe is HD material, then having it be SD only, and for no reason other than someone forgot to make it happen.
