The last time DirecTV did a channel realignment was the summer of 1999. It was not long after DirecTV acquired USSB (that was in 1998), and later in 1999 in came public service and foreign channels. (If dates are incorrect, feel free to set me right.)
Thinking about the reports on HD channel additions at both local and most especially nationally cable-related levels, I'm thinking another channel realignment could happen.
As of now, HD channels for cable fare is the 70s-90s, with premiums HBO and Showtime mirrored in their SD-assigned area well into the 500s.
Am I wrong in thinking this? Because we're going to get individual channels that will add up. A&E HD, Bravo HD, CNN HD, USA Network HD, Sci-Fi Channel HD, National Geographic HD, MHD (which is MTV, VH1, CMT), Food Network HD, HGTV HD, numerous channels in connections to the companies that own those channels, as well as RSNs for sports, et al. And let us not forget those premium channels in HD (Starz! Encore, Cinemax, The Movie Channel)!
