Yeah, very nice stuff there, what blows is thats the same stuff i got as well (where I got that pic heh)

By looking @ the pic of the modulator, it seems the chip @ JC1 is the usb controller, which is also used in the Sasem OnAir USB and the Blue box HD , and the rest does look like voltage stuff..

So the best way to figure this out is to try to make mpeg, go to usb! (now if we had one working sample of the device, i know of a few companies that do just that, reverse engineer and remanufacture products for a steep %, but they do it!)

Edit: It seems the mpeg bus passes through the Xlinx chip, then onto the 8psk main output, so it seems like we can pull the mpeg data out of the main output, the only matter is modulating it right onto the usb bus!

what type of slot is that that the 6000 8psk modual plugs into.. (the type of pins) It kinof reminds me of ISA back in the old days..

Hrmm, good idea, but google says its only ~28 KB/sec , and if were trying to pull in HDTV at even 20mbps/sec, i dont think it will cut it.

That would let us read the Xlinx chip however, what I am interested in is the wintv usb , to try to get an inside shot of it, apparently it has the same xlinx chip, and maybe (just maybe) we could hotwire its mpeg input with our own, and use all its usb stuff, but dont have a pic of it to see!

Since it's stock, we don't know if the board needs to be modified at all.
I would certainly like to know (or see) that the Dish 8PSK module is used unmodified.

It's used unmodified.

Unless the 8PSK module needs higher than 12 volts, I'd be inclined to run it off the PC, to avoid all that extra stuff.

The pc power supply is what the version Rod was selling was designed to use.

ok guys I just emailed rod.. the last time he emailed me he mentioned that he had a list of people that wanted one... and his hardware guy took off.. So im going to see if i can work a deal with him to get some info on the adapter and parts list and how to put together.. at the same time we could make some for him also and his list.. Once we get the info we should be all straight..

Well ad me to that list, would be nice if we could get the info off of him (even if we all pooled in and bought it) and for manufacturing, it can be done as well.. Just dying to get some info (even some hi-res shots, anything!) but a pcb id like more!! (and willling to buy one as well!)

The chip at IC1 is a Cypress cy7c68013 56pvc.
You'll also need the development kit.

yeah, that is an outrageous price, not to even mention after getting that, we still need the original code, which besides the fact is going nuts pulling chips and ripping people off, your talking $500 for a glorified chip burner (which i have, bought it, used it once, and here it sits, very cool tho, does all kindas chips)

If you want to get the broadcast feeds a 4.5 meter reflector should work fine, SA makes a nice 4.5 meter, though it will need to be peaked very well for some feeds, or you can move up more in size.

Rod was selling the final product for $299.
You need the Development Kit to design and test the microcode that will be embeded in the USB controller chip, but if you can work out a deal with Rod to assemble them, you won't need the kit.

I got a hint from someone, that if you can get 20+ people together to buy a batch, it becomes worthwhile to make another set.

ok... I got an email back from rod today... Rod wasnt being nice... to put it nicely... expecaly after buying his product at a full 99.00 dollars.. for commercial use.. Im going to try to work a few more strings and see what i can come up with. I was actually surprised at the responce that I got from him and how unhelpful he was.

You guys do know that the 8psk module from the Dishnetwork receiver only does Turbo 8PSK and not Trellis. Just about everyone useful runs Trellis mode... only dishnet these days (and the defunct Voom) ran Turbo.

This module and USB adapter board is useless for broadcast feeds.

I don't think it's fair to say that Rod wasn't being nice in not helping figure this out, And I also think if you purchased his software that it does not give you support on something else which he was involved with at one time.

If I had to guess I would say that there is a reason those modules stopped being shipped and his hardware guy disapeared.

You tried going to the source and he was little help but he did help some, you got a piece of the puzzle, now its time to find the next part.

I know you guys CAN do it after all your SatelliteGuys Mad Scientists.
