Are you on the Western Arc and have an old non 8PSK reciever? Have you been getting calls and postcards telling you need to upgrade your equipment? If you have been ignoring these warnings... then this is it, you will soon start losing channels from your lineup and will only get them back if you upgrade your equipment.

I have just received this...

"Channel interruptions for QPSK receivers will begin on June 10th (5-10 channels per week) and will continue until July 15th when all channels at the 119 orbital location will be converted to 8PSK."

It will be very interesting to see where this goes and how they manage the additional space. If there will be more HD channels, spreading out HD channels to improve picture quality, or just making space for potential 4k offerings.

yea thats what you call progress you guys i wonder what dish is going to do with all that bandwidth maybe add some new hd channels for us who would like to see them.

Is there a list of all the equipment that is affected? Model numbers of the receivers that won't be good anymore? I'd like to have that for reference.

If you have a VIP receiver or Hopper, you are fine.
For SD I believe 311,322,522,and 625 can do 8PSK.

311/311k/512/522/625/411. I believe that covers them all(SD). All VIP/XIP equipment is fine. All 4 digit receivers such as the 3900 will be affected. The 3 digits receivers affected that come to mind off the bat, 111/301/some 311 models/508/510/381/811. Hope that helps.

I think the 322 will also be OK.

Step one: Full time HD RSNs.
Step two: relax compression a bit.
Step three: add HD to existing channels that aren't in HD (when available and contractually feasible)
Step one will likely never happen. Charlie has made it clear he has no intention of meeting many of ghe RNSs contractual demands.

I really doubt they will do much of #2 as pointed out by others here many are fine with how the HD looks now. Of course many that are saying the HD is fine maybe on the EA.

So I predict they will concentrate on #3.

At some point they need to realize not everyone watches tv on a 46" either, from 15 feet away. The whole point of HD was to get better, which they did at first, and then squeezed it. If they are freeing up space, do a little to ease compression. While some channels are pretty good, some others can look pretty damn bad at times (fast motion/action).

Agh. Yes. I forgot that dastardly 322.
You also forgot the 501 on the list of receivers being discontinued.

When is the deadline for other orbital locations? I will continue to use my 501 until the bitter end. Dish can have my 501 back when they can pry its cold, dead DVR functionality from my hands!

Conflicting recordings.

DIRECTV says it will go all HD in 2016 , what about DISH?
