Well, I got my Dish Network installed with the 811 today. I was worried the whole time because of all the issues I have read about SD PQ. Once it was installed, I was disappointed. The SD PQ was not good to say the least. I still had digital cable installed and I used it as a reference. So...... I was almost ready to do a same day cancellation until I started messing around with my TV. I tuned the brightness, contrast, and sharpness and set the 811 to HD Stretch and my tv to 16:9. A little better but not great. I tried the S-video cable for SD. That was even better but still not good enough for me. My tv has automatic focusing called Magic Focus so I did that and it improved about another 50%. I continued looking at the settings on my tv and I found something that I had never seen before. It is under the Video settings and it is called Noise Reduction (Hitachi 57S715). The default setting for this is High, with choices of Off, Low, and High. I switched it to Off and........WOAH! Hard to believe unless you see it for yourself but I now believe that I have the best SD on a 57" screen that you can get (HD is wonderful too). That was with Component Cables too so no need to switch back and forth for SD and HD Needless to say, I am very happy now and DISH ROCKS!! :D So I encourage all of you that are having SD PQ problems to check for some kind of noise reduction setting for video. My guess is that is has something to do with the power being consumed by all the electronic devices around. Good luck to all.

I have a Hitachi set as well (65T500) and the Noise Reduction setting really perplexes me, because it makes the picture look like crap all the time. The day I found it and turned it off, I was a happy camper. I just need to get my set ISF Calibrated. Then it will look even better than it already does.

I have had the 811 and I liked the PQ. If you have a chance, check out the 942. I think the PQ on the 942 is light years beyond the 811 and the OSD is a LOT nicer (its actually in 16x9 versus the 4x3 of the 811).
