811 and anamorphic 16:9 output options...

Thanks for the pics, dfergie.

Have to ask: Does anyone have definitive info on whether or not you can output anamorphic SD out of the S-Video on the 811? And can you watch HD on the DVI simultaneously? That's what it appears I'm looking to do (since the 811 manual states the DVI and component outs won't run simultaneously).

dfergie...so the Component is 1080i and the S-Video is letterbox 480i, right? And the 811 doesn't allow you to tell it to send anamorphic (16:9) out the S-Video, or you haven't tried because you've no reason to take such into the Replay? Thanks.

As far as I can tell, the 811 WILL NOT output an anamorphic image over the
S-video or composite outputs. Your only choices are normal (letterbox) and zoomed. I use a Samsung OTA box to record local OTA to DVD because it has a "full" output mode that makes very good DVDs.

I wonder if the 411 boxes will allow anamorphic out of the S-vid/composite? Might have to put my 2nd room DVD recorder plans on hold until then, being able to record anamorphic is a big thing in my book...damn.

Nah, both DVI and component active at same time. Know because i tested sim output and have video distribution using two Muxlab 500050 component and coax digital audio via Cat5 to upstairs and use the DVI for downstairs.

Dish wants you to believe it is not possible (see the big sign in the manual) so that you feel compelled to order/lease a second receiver

Interesting. The issue then would be whether the hassle of switching output resolution when wishing to record is worth the bother--as I assume, the 811 only allows one output parameter that covers both DVI and component.

Dfergie, when you posted the 4 pictures on post #27, what did you do to get the output to fill your TV scren (Pictures 1 and 4)? Are those pictures cut off on the left and right side?

And you have a Panny DVD recorder. I am looked at the Panny EH-50S, and wonder what I can do to get a full screen like you did on post #27, pictures 1, and 4.

Thanks for your help.

Those were at full zoom and the 2 inside were Normal...(and as you can see the sides were cut off much like a Fullscreen dvd vs. a Widescreen. I have more options with the 921 as you can see on post 28 (I had a 6000u that had pretty much the same options as the 921, but it died)

you can use the zoom on the Panny if it is so equipped or the differant aspect ratio's on your TV to get full screen...
