Er, you had me at "dual OTA tuners."

Very happy to see last night that the 722K will be out in December! In an area that has been neglected by Dish for HD LiLs, this will be great.

Now, just add FX in time for Damages... and Logo.

They mentioned this unit on the Tech Chat, but didn't give a whole lot in the way of technical details on the thing. Does it have the 500GB HDD like the 722, or is it bigger? Supposedly the 922 (the Sling model) is going to have a 1TB HDD, which would sure be nice on the 722k.

The 722k is a great machine. Not much different operating wise to a normal 722, however the dual OTA tuner is a great addition.

As for a dual HD output receiver they are working on them. The big thing now is figuring how to get the HD signal way far away to TV2 without loss of picture quality and while also keeping the copy protection and dolby audio in place.

Wouldn't sufficient copy protection also be a concern? Many people have suggested using an ATSC modulator to distribute the signal, but it occurs to me that there would be a transcoding problem. ATSC is based on MPEG2, and most Dish Network HD programming is MPEG4 now.

ATSC output would not be allowed by the programmers, as people could then dump video to digital vcr's. This is why Dish shut down the Dish 5000 receiver (remember that? yes it had an attachment for ATSC output)

So, does this mean that you'll be able to record two OTA HD programs and two Satellite HD programs at the same time, and presumably watch two other previously recorded programs?

If so, that's a lot of HD access going at once! :)

Scott, from what you have said about the 922 it sounds like that model will be the first on which you can effectively watch two different HD programs on two TVs. To watch HD on the second TV will probably require a Slingcatcher or perhaps a similar 922. Is that about right?

Correct, the 922 will have basically a Slingbox and a SlingCatcher built into it. So it would be possibly to watch HD on another TV in your house in HD using a SlingCatcher. (Assuming the software update comes out which lets the Slingcatcher output full res HD by then) :D

6 MB is plenty fast enough which is easy on a home network. :)

BTW over the internet 1.5 MB/s provides enough for a very very good HD picture. but its not flawless.

I am wondering if the new 222k/722k OTA modules work better than the tuners in the present VIP222/722. The tuner in the DTVPal is superior to the tuner in the present VIPs. It would be great if the new modules would work as well.

Hell, just add a second HDMI output for TV2 (or even component). I'll run the cable to the other room (or through the wall like I'm doing now). TV2 currently has composite outputs, giving it component or HDMI shouldn't be any different.

I guess component would not allow for content copy protection. HDMI would. Personally I think people should be allowed to record HD content so not providing for copy protection is a nonissue for me. I also agree if component can be provided for the 1st TV, I don't see why it couldn't be for the 2nd as well. HD content can already be copied so I'm not sure what the issue really is?

DISH dropped WBAY-TV (ABC in Green Bay)!!!!

Uncle Charlie :D this is how you can win me back
