722k runs 24-7

I just have a question why does the 722k run when it is turned off It sounds like it is the hard drive running. Is there a way to shut it down?? Or is this normal.

The only way to shut it down is to unplug it. The receiver stays running to record any shows you have set up. It will also reboot the time it is set for to check for for new software and to download the guide info.

It is normal.

Not only normal, but VITAL that it still "run" in Stand-by mode. By comparison, TiVo Series 3 still records to buffer both tuners even in its Stand-by mode. Sometimes I do like that.

If the fan is running 24/7, it could possibly be too hot inside the cover. Too much heat will likely shorten the life of the hard drive. Lots of discussion here: http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-ne...age-622-722-temperature-thread-yours-hot.html
