No, it will reformat your EHD to accept any DVR content that you elect to send to it. Everything on your DVR will stay intact. Nothing is automatic unless you ask the DVR to send content to the EHD....

If you are attaching an external drive for the first time, select YES to allow it to format the External Drive.

Also just a note about 722k ... when you have more than one on *your* account, until someone decides to restrict it ... you can move the EHD from one 722 to another. Key is that they have to be on the same account.

And I do know that it won't currently allow you to transfer to a 211k, nor will a 211k formated EHD transfer to a 722k.
