I might change my order from a 612 to a 722. Along with the bigger hard drive, I have some questions.

I understand that if I am watching "TV2" then the box only has 1 tuner (and OTA) to record from, can't record 2 shows at the same time. And "watch TV2" means that TV is on, right?

If I am not watching TV2 (second tv is off), both tuners are available to record (2 shows at once)?

If I am watching TV2 and watching a recorded show, can I record 2 shows at the same time?

Not entirely certain of what you are feeding from the new 722. I believe (correct me if I am wrong) that you are planning on having 1 TV, so it would be set to single mode.

Having said this, you have 3 tuners available in the 722 (2 Sat Tuners and 1 OTA Tuner). With this, you can watch something live (and record it) and record 2 things. That can be 2 Sat Programs and 1 OTA Program. You can also record 3 things (2 Sat and 1 OTA) and watch a program already on the DVR.

If you are using it in Dual Mode, then the same options are available for recording, but you would need to set the tuners up from the TV they are hooked to.

When viewing something that has been recorded before (it exists on the Hard Drive already completely) you are NOT using the Tuner. If you chose to record something on the tuner, then you can still watch stuff off the DVR.

Hope that answers the question,
Geoff

Not if he used Record Plus.

For most of the time I will have it in Single mode. But when we have guests I will have it in Dual mode. I was just wondering what the definition of "in use" was regarding the second TV.

It's IN USE if it is recording something. Otherwise, surf to your content.
