722 problem: spontaneous "info"

So I just upgraded from SD Dish network to HD, replacing my 522 with a vip 722.

And there's an odd recurring problem, which I just noticed about 3-4 days in.

The "info" overlay (what you see when you press the "info" button) is popping up spontaneously and randomly while I'm watching. Then I have to click OK to make it go away. It's quite annoying when it happens frequently. Sometimes 10 or 15 minutes or longer will pass between instances, other times it just keeps popping up mere seconds after I've made it go away.

Is this a known issue? Ideas?

Thank you!

YES! I used to have this problem all the time. I changed remote addresses a few times and it didn't help. It always seemed to happen within a few moments of changing to a different channel.

I thought I was crazy. It seems to have stopped though, I haven't had it happen in probably about a month.

Are you seeing this on TV 1 or TV 2? I had this problem on TV 2 for awhile and couldn't figure out how to fix it. Then I changed the batteries in the remote and it never happened again. Don't ask me why this fixed it because the "old" batteries didn't seem to be worn out or dead, but it worked for me. Give it a try.

The rubber pad under the keys has some small contact "spots" that may just be making contact every now and then. The rubber pad may be warped a little and thus the intermitent contact and the info screen popping up. I had the same problem and got rid of it by "exercising" the info key over and over until it was no longer an issue.

Me too

I've had my 722 for about 3 weeks now, and just started noticing this on TV2. I'll try the "exercising the key" suggestion.

I also see TV2 getting turned on a lot (not the set, but the 722) without me doing it. I assume this will keep me from getting guide updates. I guess it could be interference from a neighbor, but I haven't gotten around to changing the frequency on the remote.

It's TV1. I only have one TV. The TV2 remote is idle in a drawer and doesn't have batteries. The DVR is set up for both TV1 and TV2 so I can record two shows at once. Interestingly it appears to default to record TV2 first, then TV1 if there's a conflict -- whereas on my 522 it would record TV1 first then TV2.

If it were a problem with the button wouldn't the "sat" button be lighting up? For what it's worth, the "sat" button does not light up during these occurrences.
