722 and hook up to 2nd tv

Ok first post maybe someone can help. I have a 722 hooked up to my sons Sony HDTV. TV 2 is in the basement and is a large screen RCA HDTV and is a DLP.I think it is the RCA Scenum model. Anyway, the tech who did the install said that since it is plugged into the antenna A I will have to manually put it back to antenna A off of the RCA remote. Whenever the TV is put on it goes to one of the inputs, but it is supposed to be off of the Antenna etc..His solution was to put the box in the basement and make my sons tv the second tv, which I do not want to do since then the second will not get the HDTV. AM I missing something in the sett-up?

If the 722 is in the basement you need to use an hdmi cable to the hd tv. HD should be used on the main tv. Does this receiver run to another tv in your house as well on tv1? Because you said that the installer is treating the tv in the basement as tv 2.

There are two tv's. TV 1 is in my sons room and is HDTV and hooked up with HDMI. TV 2 is in the basement and is a large screen RCA HDTV and is the DLP type of TV. The problem being on TV 2. Apparently since the cable line goes directly into the tv with no actual receiver the signal is coming through Antenna A not through one of the actual inputs (ie: 1-4). So when I put the TV on I have to go to the RCA remote and press the antenna button to switch to antenna A and get a signal. This occurs becasue when I use the remote #2 and turn on the receiver by pushing the sat button, the TV goes to an input. The tech guy said it was becasue there is no receiver and it is a DLP type of tv.

SAT TV Autotune

The SAT Auto-Tune feature on newer DISH Network remote controls lets the user program into the remote control the correct TV channel used for satellite viewing. When the SAT button is pressed, the remote sends that channel to the TV. Most snowy, blue, or black screen issues occur because the TV is on the wrong channel, especially on TV2, and the use of SAT Auto-Tune helps prevent that issue from occurring.
To use SAT Auto-Tune, first program the remote to operate the TV, then program in the correct channel for the TV, and finally enable SAT Auto-Tune (for 5.3 and 6.3 remote controls).

Compatible Remotes:

• 5.3 IR
• 5.4 IR
• 6.3 IR/UHF Pro
• 6.4 IR/UHF Pro
• 20.0 IR
• 21.0 IR/UHF Pro

Note: Earlier version of the 5.3 and 6.3 remotes, part numbers 142301, 142307 and 143129, do not support SAT Auto-Tune

Considerations:

• SAT Auto-Tune is disabled by default on the 5.3 and 6.3 remote controls.
• SAT Auto-Tune is enabled by default on the 5.4, 6.4, 20.0, and 21.0 remote controls.
• For SAT Auto-Tune to function correctly, the correct channel for the installation must be programmed into the remote using the steps under Setting SAT Auto-Tune Channel.
• SAT Auto-Tune can only send a channel to the TV, not an input. Because of this, SAT Auto-Tune is most useful for TV2. If used for TV1, channel 3 or 4 should be programmed using the steps under Setting SAT Auto-Tune Channel.
• The TV channel programmed for SAT Auto-Tune is also the channel that will be sent to the TV if the RECOVER button is used. The steps in Setting SAT Auto-Tune Channel can also be used in VCR mode to program the channel sent to a VCR during the Recover process.

How To:

  Note: These steps can also be used to change the channel used for SAT Auto-Tune.
  1. Program the remote control to operate the TV.
  2. Press and hold TV until all four mode buttons are lit.
  3. Press STAR (*), then enter the channel used for viewing satellite TV. For example, if the TV needs to be on channel 60, enter *60.
  4. Press POUND (#). The TV button flashes three times to indicate programming was successful.

  1. Press and hold SAT for three seconds until all four mode buttons are lit.
  2. Press STAR (*), then press VOLUME UP.
  3. Press POUND (#). The SAT button flashes three times to indicate SAT Auto-Tune was enabled.
• Disabling SAT Auto–Tune
  1. Press and hold SAT for three seconds until all four mode buttons are lit.
  2. Press STAR (*), then press VOLUME DOWN.

You do realize that even though the RCA is a HDTV you are sending only a SD picture to it. The TV 2 output on the 722 is not HDTV

Yes I do realize that I will only get Sd on the HDTV. It is somewhat ironic that Dish counts this as two HD receivers . I have two 722k's doing 4 tv's. Dish says I have "4" HD sets now so if I want to have another HD box I must purchase it. They argue that they can only lease 4 boxes at most and doing it this way although it counts as 4 boxes I only get charged for 2 so they are doing me a favor.

Anyway, I am getting a new 722 to replace a defective one put in last week. I just went into the settings and changed some on the tv itself but I am niot sure if it worked yet till I get the new box. If not I will try what has been posted.

You might want to look into replacing 1 722 with 2 VIP612's that will still keep you at 4 tuners but you would have HDTV on three sets.

This answered my question why TV2 on a 625 wont sat auto tune. At least I am not crazy.
