When viewing a program live (or delayed a few minutes) on the 721, I decide I want to start recording. Usually when the recording is started it records from that point on. But sometimes it will record the buffer as well (which on the 721 can 90 minutes or more).

I haven't figured out any way to tell what triggers the 721 to record the buffer or not. Any ideas?

I never tried to do that, because I'd probably miss something I wanted.

I just rewind to the spot I want as the beginning and set it to record to the end of the program. Then I click "view" and switch channels. Works everytime! :)

Not sure if this is what you are talking about but if you go to options after you press "record" there is a option where it says "record entire event" or something. Also, I have a 625.

I have a 510 and I have to do what charise does, rewind before you press the record button then click view tv to go back

Right, on my 508 if you want to record something you've already passed you have to rewind first. If I recall the 721 has a "record entire program" option that is available if the beginning of the program is still in the buffer.

What I'm talking about is dong a "start recording right now" option on the 721 (push REC then OK, or push REC twice). It ususally works as expected, but once in a while will record the buffer as well. Not a biggie, but slightly annoying to want to record just that last TD pass but end up getting the preceding 90 minutes of the game as well.

The 721 does have a "record entire program" option, but I haven't used it. It may start with commercials, and I'd rather not record that.

Every time I've started a recording in the middle of something where I just want the rest of the program, I believe it says something like "record to the end."

I think you must be getting the buffered portion if you've paused or backed up what you are viewing--recording to the end would include that buffer if you aren't "live" when you start recording.

811 vs 411
