I have a 625 thats about 2 months old, looks like the hard drive has went out, can't even get to the hard drive diagnostics option. Everything else seems to be working on it, except the DVR functions, also getting a hard drive error message.

What to do ?

I purchased this outright through Dish Store, the said try to go through Dish for replacement 1st. I also have the maint deal through Dish.

I am afraid they will replace it was some refurbished deal that is scratched, etc.

I am tempted to just crack it open and replace the hard drive, they are not that expensive for a 120gb drive.

I am a computer tech but have never cracked open a receiver, so what your thoughts.

If I replace the drive will it rebuild whatever it needs ?

I had a fresh from box 625 (you did mean that, and not 622, right?) doing this on an install thursday. Advanced tech told me to reset it by unplugging it. Try twice if need be, if that don't fix it, its toast.

I had tried numerous front panel resets to no avail. I unplugged it once, waited about a minute, plugged it back in, and started working properly. They had a whole bunch of these with the fake HDE messages awhile back, but it had been so long I forgot how to fix it.

I've never seen a scratched refurb..... And I don't think the folks I work for buy NEW equipment.

Ditto! Try what chadzx11 suggested and it should come back to life. I just bought a brand new 625 and it gave a "hard drive failure, call 1-800......" error, unplugged it and plugged it back in and I haven't had any more problems.

I concur on this strategy. I had the same error about 2 weeks after I got my 625 last December. I did the unplug-replug method and haven't had a problem since.

That did it, what a pain, had to move out the 61in sony to get behind to unplug from battery backup.

Thanks !!!

Can't get DISH 1000 unless I order locals? Why not?

622 folks, did your pre DST timers fire?
