622 replacement

I am replacing my 622 with one that has a working HDMI port and wanted to know something. I have an external HD and will I need to do anything except hook it up so it is working properly? The new 622 will recognize the HD and start working without any hitches? Do I need to call Dish re-initiate the HD? Just curious.

Once the new receiver downloads the firmware and Dish authorizes it (which you can do online), the HD will just work, provided it was working on the existing 622. Just answer yes to "Do you want this receiver to manage the content on the HD" or something like that.

No, you should not have to once the updated software is loaded. Initialization is per account, not machine.
