622 HDMI picture dull compared to component

I have spent some quality time this morning for a few HOURS trying to enhance my HDMI pictures compared to my Component picture. I cannot get the Black levels to the same sharpness on HDMI no matter what I do. I have been watching the PAN AM Games where vivid colors abound; The HDMI picture on my RPTV cannot match my component video picture. My wife reminded me that a year ago when I purchased my 622 receiver that we did this same comparison between HDMI and component video and determined that HDMI had the superior picture. COULD IT BE POSSIBLE THAT L.443 software has caused this problem? L4.43 was suppose to addresss some HCMI/HDCP issues from what I have read elsewhere.
I cannot get HDMI TV individual settings to match the PQ of component. Maybe I was just in "denial" last October about a analog signal out performing a pure digital signal.

Hey! I found the same thing was happening with my cable box and Blu-ray player. I was was using some inexpensive cable I bought first ( about $50). I spoke with my friend a Magnolia A\V and he said it was the cables. He suggested I get some higher end cable and I notice a much better picture. I ended up buying a 6ft Audioquest cable for $375. What a huge difference it made, believe me, I was skepital of it, $375 is alot of money for cables, but BOY what a difference!

Hopes that helps some!
P.S. once the dust settles between D* & E* on all the HD channels I'll be switching to Sat. Leaning toward D*

I have read a LOT of post concerning cost of HDMI cables especially a 6 foot HDMI cable. Your answer is most definitely in the minority. I would not pay $375. Dude, I believe you are either pulling "our leg" or you was taken advantage of. I can buy over 30 QUALITY HDMI cables from monoprice for that and still take my wife out to Outback.

$375 for a 6 ft HDMI cable? You got to be f....ng kidding me. I can buy a 622 receiver for that kind of money.

I totally not kidding! In the book, they had HDMI cables for $5000 and higher. I'm a geek I know, but it made a huge difference on the picture. Alot crisper, no where the grain( depending on the original source of coarse). Hey, I have no bills or a house payment any more. So I can afford to splurge on toys like this for my self!!!

And no I don't work for Audioquest!!!:D

It's amazing how the mind can make you think you saw something that you didn't. Your mind just got bribed, that's all. :)

That's exactly what happened in this case. When you spend that kind of money, you want to see a difference. The people who spend $1000+ on a Denon DVD player want to see a difference over a $100-200 Sony or Philips or Oppo DVD player too.

Bad sync

I have the same problem with my 622 and Mitsubishi TV WD-62725, no matter how well I adjust the HDMI input the component input looks much better. I had a crackling sound on HDMI that was really bad with black and white programs, no problem with component, but it seems to have gone away with the software L443, the picture quality got worst with the new software on HDMI.

The crackling noise that you were hearing in the B & W image was the sync noise being overdriven by the white level.

I don't think it is the fw version, mine has been this way from the get go, both on 622 and 722.

I picked up a 42 Olevia LCD about 10 days ago and was very satisfied with the HD pq from my 622 via HDMI. Then a couple of days ago I started getting the "washed out" syndrome & could not adjust it out---believe me I tried. I hadn't bothered to hook up components. Out of frustration I went ahead & connected a set of component cables and POW the pq was once again outstanding. For whatever reason, today I tried the HDMI input again and with just some minor tweeking had that awesome picture back. The pq from component & HDMI inputs are now about pretty much equal, I'd still give the component an A+ and the HDMI an A-. I was concerned it might be the TV but I had excellent results when I tried my upgrading DVD player through the same input when I was having the problem. Had to be the 622. Dunno if Dish downloaded something or what, its got 443 software. Hopefully it won't occur again.
BTW, another very satisfied monoprice.com customer here and the washout problem was NOT from their cables. I checked that possiblity with a Monster one that I paid about 10 times as much for..........no difference. I got a 3' and a 6' HDMI cable delivered to my house in 2 business days from California to Michigan for less than $14, the priority shipping was $4.60. God only knows how awesome the viewing would be with one of them there $375.00 super duper cables, guess I'll never know................

Washed out is exactly the wording I should have used. I have a Mistubishi RPTV WS-55517. I adjusted and tweaked; The embarrassing thing is I have had my 622 receiver for a year and this is the first time I hooked it up component. I just figured HDMI was better. I had my wife and daughter to give there input and both picked Component over HDMI without hesitation. Well unless someone shows me my error, I now have a empty HDMI connection for my new Upconvert DVD that is in my near future. I was fixing to buy a HDMI switch but may not need to now.:)

I was troubleshooting a problem this afternoon, and hooked up component for the first time from my 622. It is definitely a richer/better picture than the HDMI to my eyes. I was really surprised!

If your TV has independent brightness/contrast/sharpness/color/temperature controls for each input, you may just need to adjust the laggard some. Use the best but give yourself some time to adjust to a duller, lower temperature (less blue) -- more movie like -- picture, unless you are a vivid-showroom fan.

Exactly what i was thinking.
My samssung has independant adjustments for each output, so even putting them on the same settings isnt really a fair comparison. Try some adjustments and see what you can do

Wait a minute.. back the happy truck up. You guys are saying that theres a chance everything will look a little better usuing component? I just assumed HDMI would look better. If this may be the case, i need to at least give it a try.

Sometimes component CAN look better, just as sometimes its HDMI.
If you do try HDMI, save your money. Instead of buying that overpriced monster cable from Best Buy , get a cheap one. They are EXACTLY the same
