I will switch from cable to DSL Monday. I did a search but couldn't get a clear answer. Does the DSL filter HAVE to be installed in the line to the 622, or should it NOT be installed.
Another question is, will this eliminate my $5 a month no phone line fee, and if yes, will I have to call E* and tell them, or will the receiver dial out frequently from now on, and E* will find out that it's connected to a phone line. I probably have to call them and tell them the new number anyways right?

You need the filter on the phone lines for everything and you will need to tell dish the new phone number, or when it dials out and the number is not associated with your account you will probably get a call from the auditing dept.

Ralphy,

Think of DSL as satellite and RF on the same cable. The filter is a band pass filter (diplexor) that cuts the non voice frequency from the phone line. Dial up modems work at the voice frequency and the filter cuts excess (DSL) noise from the phone line going into a modem. I have heard DSL "noise" without the filter, and have not heard the noise without the filter. It is probably better to have it installed, but it may not affect the 622's ability to dial out to Dish.

After you give Dish your new number you can go to the interactive channel (100 or 101) and check your statement online and it will dial out to Dish and (argh) you'l be connected to Dish via a 2400 baud dial up modem.
