6200 channels and nothings on

Wow tron that actually covers just about all of my questions.
Now Tell me if you can make any sense out of this.
I got 1 heck of a good signal, AND I used that nice little trick of pre-selecting a station from my true south sat for fine tuning etc.
It worked beautifully, Both my bars are nice and green and the bottom is at 85% when locked in on that particular station, the one Iceberg mentioned B4.
Now heres the wierd stuff.
I chose AMC-4, IA-5 and Galaxy-10r, simply because they have loads of channels. Problem is, the dish wont turn to any of them.
Now if I go to telstar12 it moves, and one of the ones at the end of the list makes the dish swing down almost all the way north.
But if i just randomly pick a sat or go through the list there is no movement even between radically opposing sats like 74 and 125.
If i start from the first sat (telstar12) then down to ia6 it moves, but if I go the other way nothing happens, same for basic viewing. Then sometimes it just starts working. I lock the sats with blind scan and front to back they work fine the first time through, but if i happen to backtrack to a previous sat nothing moves even if it moved while going down to the next 1 in line. What I end up with is just 1 sat to view after this happens. the green ok light is still on at the motor but no rotation if I go backwards. I can choose the manual setting and move it anywhere i want, but on auto it simply wont move.
Think maybe it's my Coolsat? Motor? or just me?
By the way, the reciever still freezes sometimes when I blind scan.
And yes my cables are tight. I wasted 2 hours the other day with a loose cable and learned THAT lesson real fast!
I can only choose about 5 or so at a time.
Aside from that, recieving channels is a breeze. I have locked in a load (about 300 or so) of viewable program channels, and can do it again at any time, and usually have to when trying to diagnose the motor problem.
In fact, right now I have 30 or so locked in after a system reset.
By the way, those 30 are coming from my TS setting at 93 deg IA-6.
Which is odd, because there are only 2 listed.
I swear I followed everything you guys told me to the letter.
I even loosened the motor and spun it 180 and started again just to be sure I had it locked in right.
And BINGO, I get it every time.
What you said about the dish alignment marks being slightly off was true too, mine was about 2 degrees after fine tuning.
I have checked and double checked my pole and its always dead on plumb.

Oh and also, when using the meter and doing a manual pan from east to west and vice versa I get a beep off and on through the entire arc, it speeds up as I approach TS.
This is good right?

If you do a manual pan from east to west and vice versa with the motor, only one satellite (the one the motor is set to) will come in. This is because the motor's shaft also sets the elevation of the dish, and only the satellite you're set to will be at the correct elevation. The satellites are highest in the sky near your true south and are located closer to the horizon at the southeastern and southwestern sides of the arc.

Your motor MAY need to be reset. I usually do that every time I reset the receiver, just to clear out the settings. First off, reset the reciever. Now, move the motor to '0' by using the east-west button on the motor. Be sure you're at '0' before continuing! On the SG-2100, there's a pinhole just next to the LED indicator which you can stick a straightened paperclip into and push (and hold down) a button. The LED will blink orange and green alternately for a bit, then go solid green. You can then release the button.

After you reset the receiver and motor, go back and setup each satellite, entering your longitude and latitude in the USALS section.

Ah ok then, I did everything right except for the flashing light thingy.
And the beeps are a bad thing huh?
Ok then I think I know what happened, the stand I made seems to have been blown sideways a bit, thankfully I paint marked where it goes.
Im loaded with stations now, even with manual scan.
I just ordered the viewsat pro 2000 from the ftadirect guys.
Hope this finally solves my blind scan problems.
After all, My TS is firmly locked in now so all I should need to do now is blind scan with the new reciever.
I used that lock in elevation thing with great success.
I just set the scan on the station I wanted to see which is only being offered on IA-6 93 deg, the university one with that wierd professor guy.
Got the double green bars at 79+ respectively.
All thats left is to do your motor reset trick and Im done.
Truth be told, I just don't have any faith in this Coolsat 4000 anymore.
Too many glitches. I'm gonna find the reciept and swap it back to those computer guys if I can ever find the invoice.
I'm gonna order the 5000 next.

Well, it looks like a new reciever may have to be the solution.
I set the TS right, but everytime I go to my TS sat when checking motorized setup the dish takes off clockwise about 40 or 45 degrees.
Does the same thing when Im switching channels.
The only solution I have come up with is to set it, check the university station to be sure im on my TS sat then take it off of usals.
As long as I do that the dish stays on the true south sat when I come to IA-6.
Anybody else have this trouble?
My Sats B4 my TS are always dead on, but after IA-6 I get absolutely nothing.
I'm assuming that when I set my TS, that it is the reference point by which all my other sats line up correctly. SO, if I set the TS as IA-6 and it goes off of TS when I go to IA-6 something must be wrong.
The new reciever is ordered anyway, so I'll be able to tell the difference when I get it.

Yes, that "centers" you on the arc.

PP I don't have enough experience to know if this matters, but IA-6 is at 93 and I thought you were further east. (Port Sulphur is 89.7)

IA-8 is at 89.0

Maybe someone with more experience can tell me if that matters that much... But that's what I see.
 
There is no port sulphur here it's just called plain Sulphur.
Double check my zip 70663.
See if you get the same readings I did.
It wouldn't surprise me if my Satfinder backfired on me.
 
Oh- Over by Lake Charles? I thought you said (4 pages ago) PORT Sulphur. OK that makes more better sense. -- Glad I wasn't driving to see you. ;-)
 
LOL! Yeah, you'd have missed me by quite a lot.
I FINALLY got the Coolsat loader, flashed the firmware with the new factory stuff and things started acting a whole lot better.
Problem is, the motor still stops tracking after about the halfway point.
I set every satellite to usals, single and 10750.
Past abour 125 deg I hit trees but it should still track right?
I get 15 deg to around 97 deg then its all done moving.
The new frimware correctly names the sats as well.
 
Yep, I did that and no change.
Maybe I blew something up?
When I first got all this stuff I connected and disconnected the motor with the reciever on.
Later on I read that thats not a good idea.

Generally, it's not... it can certainly foul up DiSEqC switches, I suppose maybe motors as well. Always a good idea not only to power off the receiver but also to turn the master switch in the back off.

Do you have another motor you can test? Or better yet, is the motor still under warranty?
 
Ok, quick question. I am using a coolsat 5000, 30" dtv dish with dual lnb 110 and 119, and a SG-2100 dish motor. The coax from the 5k to the motor, then to ? Do I go to the switch which is hooked to 2 lnb's or go to one of the lnbs in particular? I am new to this and about to pull what little hair I have left out. Any help is great. Oh, zip code 62924 and I think my south bird is T11. Is that right also?
 
Your True south satellite is at the same position as your longitude, 89 deg

That would make it IA-8

The LNB's you have will NOT work for this satellite or the 95% that have FTA legal signals.

30" DirecTV dish? International? If so, its probably set up for 95w (linear) and 101w (circular)... 110 and 119 (without 101w) multisat setups are usually for DishNetwork (both circular), and most of those won't work for FTA.
 
If you have a dish with a standard 40mm LNB clamp, any Ku linear LNB will do. There are a few common ones that most of us use: The Invacom .3db series universal LNBFs, the Invacom circular/polar .3db 'quad polar' LNBF, the Fortec .4 universal LNBF, the Xtreme .3 standard LNBF.

The only difference between the 'standard' and 'universal' Ku LNBFs is the Local Oscillator (L.O.) frequencies in your receiver setup. A universal uses 9750/10600 (dual range), and the standard ones use a L.O. of 10750 (single range).
