55+ Upgrade from Dish Silver to Gold

I just became aware of the DISH55 program today (5/24/2019). DISH has me listed as a customer at this location for 17 years (they don't count the 5 years or so at my previous location).

At any rate, as an existing customer, they did add the DISH 55 flag on my account.

This does not save anything on monthly programming (AT 250, SHO, Hopper 3, Locals). It gets a free movie rental per month (certificates do not carry over) as well as DISH Protect Gold for 6 months free which then goes to $9.99/mo Silver protect automatically. I asked several times and was assured that if I cancelled the DISH Protect prior to the free 6 months - there would be no cancellation fee.

I waited till after the Memorial Day weekend to call Dish. I talked to the first level Customer Service Representative and explained everything that had happened with the past 3 calls. She also saw the notes on my account that agreed with what I had told her. She then transferred me to a Customer Account Specialist. He agreed that I was a top tier customer and that I had Dish Protect since it was first offered. He was able to add the 55+ upgrade offer from Dish Silver to Dish Gold on my account. My confidence in Dish has been restored. Dish does reward their best customers.

I just took the plunge, Preferred Customer and 55+. Account Specialist could not do the change, advanced to Advanced Account Specialist. Have you gotten any emails referring to sign up for the extra free services?

Yes, I got an email detailing the Dish Protect Gold Plan. It gave me the web site to register for EzShield. Also included in the email was the Activation Code and the download site for Webroot Cyber Security and Antivirus. Finally there is an IOS app for 1 click tech support.

I have not done any of the download and activations yet. I want to make sure that Webroot will coexist with Norton which I currently use on my computers. I will tackle this tomorrow.

Are you saying EzShield, Webroot Security and antivirus are all part of the 55+ plan at no extra cost?

I don’t believe that for a minute.

About 10 years ago if anyone remembers Dish used to charge $5 if you had a 222, 322, 622, 722 or 625 that was not connected to a phone line.

There was so many customers being charged for not having a phone line connected to their receiver, Dish updates their receiver pricing based on the model receiver.

They went to $7 for a 311/211, $10 for a 612, $14 for a 322/222, $17 for a 622/722 and I believe $19 or $20 for a 922.

The thing is they updated everyone’s account to reflect the new pricing for the receivers, but still continued to charge a $5 fee for no phone line.

I have never been charged extra for not having my receiver (211k) to a phoneline, not my old 2700. Where the receiver is located, it is not easy to run one there. Plus what about so many people that do not even have a landline? I know many that just uses their cel phone.

I pointed this out to Dish on dozens accounts I was dealing with. Dish either refused to remove the fee, or told the customer they would remove it if they signed up for credit card auto pay.

That went over well with a lot of people.

But point here is that Dish will never give a discount unless you call and ask.

Yes, the email I received said the Dish Protect Gold plan includes the following:
1) $10 Technician Visit - regular $95
2) EZShield ID protection
3) Webroot Cybersecurity & Anti-Virus
4) an Android or IOS app for One-Click Tech Support.

Currently I am on Hold waiting for the Resolution Specialist to give me the Access Code to set up the EZShield Identity Protection.

Just Finished. EZShield is now set up.
It took 1.5 hours to enter all of my information into the Identity Vault.

I installed the IOS One-Click Tech Support App on my Iphone. I asked the tech support if Webroot and Norton were compatible. He answered that they work well together. I just finished installing Webroot from the link that Dish supplied in their email. The activation code they included worked. Webroot Secure Anywhere is currently doing a scan of my laptop. Norton did not seem to have any problem with Webroot. Next spring I may save some money and not renew Norton if Webroot works well. Of course I have to add it to my 4 other computers.

Webroot finished the scan in 18 min 13 sec and No Active Threats were detected. It looks like it has a Password Manager, Backup & Sync, and Utilities. I will need to learn more about the program.
