522 hard drive runs 24/7

The hard drive seems to run all the time. The unit is in our bedroom and the noise is disturbing. Clack, clack, click.

Every now and then it will quit for a few days then start up again. Is it trying to defrag itself?

There is no recording going on.
No timers active.

We are not using the DVR feature as we have a 622 in the living room for that, so any solution that kills the DVR is not a problem.

The hard drive spins whether you are using the dvr or not. You can either unplug it or move the receiver out of the room and wire the tv to work with it in another room.

Yes. It's clear all the way around. It's not fan noise. It is head seeking noise from the HD.

Thats actually a good reason to get an ra/ call dish and request it. I think it was in their known receiver issues.
