I had some busines uptown today at the local western auto store. As i was going in to the store i saw a small Channel Master dish in the alley across the street that I thought I saw on the roof of the drug store next to it so i went in and talked to the owner it turned out that the dish belonged to the gas company next door but he did have a rather large dish that the drug store did not use anymore and he would sell it . and if the gas company did not what to sell theirs and as it turned out they did not want to sell it. To come and make him a offer for it. I offered $40 and he excepted.Unforunately the dish did not have a LNB on it so I would like you guys advice on what type of KU Band LNB may work on this dish Because this dish Measures 50in by 50in I may want to go with a dual LNB set up Do you know of any good options. I look forward to your responses. thank you Lonewolf85:)

well unfortunatly it doesnt have an lnb holder either, oh well out comes the hose clamp, lol.

and offset ku linear lnb should be fine on there. nice dish.

I see a couple of them in town. One is at a closed down car dealer, and another at a local newspaper place...
I know one doesn't have a lnb, but couldn't tell about the other, because of distance.

a real 1.2m Channelmaster

Well, isn't that a beauty?
The LNB assembly that's missing, was for transmitting and receiving, I'll wager.
What you'd want is to get someone with a similar dish to measure the LNB horn location.
You can work it out for yourself, of course. *
Also, it may be possible to get the original drawings.
I have them for a similar-looking 6' Prodelin dish that was for xmit/rcv service.

I think our ACRadio member may have some of those dishes, and might give ya some encouragement.

A four foot Ku dish is kinda overkill for the lower 48 states, in my opinion.
And fixed dish, all the more so.
We have people here who've motorized such dishes, but you'd be discarding most of the mount to do so.
Still, probably a worthwhile pursuit.

Several members have 1.2 m commercial dishes and experiment with poor-man's C-band on them.
You might chat with or look for threads by those guys, if the subject interests you.
Six foot is a more realistic minimum size, but don't tell these guys.

All in all, that's one fine looking dish.

edit: looks like PopCornNmore and BloomDog both have 1.2 ChannelMaster dishes
... so you could search for threads by those guys or track them down.

re-edit: well upon closer examination of pictures of the two above members, their dish doesn't match yours.
They don't even match each other.
It's possible that when I saved their pictures, I made a mistake about the actual dish brand.

one more time: your dish looks much more like ACRadio's Prodelin dish and mount, and not at all like a ChannelMaster

I LOVE the elevation scale, very exotic looking! I wonder how accurate it is... looks like it can be adjusted by bolts. Possibly an add-on kit for that dish.

That dish and mount look almost exactly like the commercial DirecWay hardware I used to have. This page might give you a rough idea on where to mount the LNB.

I hope you have many years of fun with this thing! If I still had my dish I'd probably be up on the roof right now (yes, in the middle of the night) trying to get C-band on it. Heck, if I knew where I could get one again for a price like you paid, I'd likely go there right now and camp out until morning just to make sure no one else beats me to it! :D

It's a Prodelin 1.2 meter commercial dish, and it's a very good performer. Mounting LNB's is easy with these...a 4 inch 1/4x20 bolt with the appropriate size EMT conduit hanger and you're set.

:)-----VERY NICE INDEED-----:)

If I had to venture that dish was used on the Hugh Net service at Spaceway 2 parked at 99.2°W for credit card authorizations at that gas station. That is a Boeing 702 bird put up there in 2005 with Sundries with Expendable Energy. Hughes launched a new Spaceway 3 last year at a different location 95°W for data & broadband service for commercial use.

I helped put one up for a friend of the family that owns agas station here in my area a few years back. I remember the IRD looked just like a DirecTV box in size but had allot of data connections on the back to hook into the register. The Spaceway fleet has approximately 5 to 8 times the capacity of today's Ku-band satellites! If only our FTA satellites were that powerful!

Venture to say it was used for transmitting and receiving.

It is a Prodelin 1.2 meter dish for commercial use!

But anyway, a very nice dish find! $40 you can’t go wrong! :up

Yup it's a 1.2 meter Prodelin all right I have an LNB feed horn just like that. Thats on a primestar dish see attached pic. Unforunately this primestar dish is missing most of the mount and has a break on the corner. This little primestar dish is exactly like the Channel Master dish the gas companany had that was laying in the alley that they did not want to sell. Also ACRadio do you think you could take a closer up pic of the way you've mounted your LNB. Also what is a EMT conduit hanger?

Also I forgot to mention that I got the non penatratimg roof mount for this prodelin dish as well. My original plan was to set the mount in the front yard but as I was carrying the dish around to the front yard I passed the mounting pole that I used to have a second BUD on, and decided to see if the dish would fit on that pole and to my surprise it did. Thanks lonewolf85

Yea I could do that I do have a BSC 621 laying around. But I am already set up for C-Band as I have a 10ft Odom dish with one of them patent infringeing Co Rotor feed horns that linuxman likes so much.

This 1.2m Channel Master is different than my 1.2m Channel Master. I have mine on a homemade mount using a SG2100 H-H drive and it is still working great after several years.

I have one just like this and here I thought I was the only kid on the block with one! It's pointed at Intelsat 5 (97W) and performs very well. Mine came with a sort of bracket and I put a cheapie LNBF in it. The fittings are glavanized armour plate and I expect this one to survive! Nearly broke my back carrying it up to the garage roof. I paid $50 for mine with all the fittings but no LNBF. I see a lot of gas stations with these and uplinks on them.

Hey izthebye could you take a pic of your bracket and LNBF and post it in this thread . I am still looking for ways of mounting a lnb on mine . Thanks Lonewolf85:up

Also zoom in on ACradio's picture above.
His bolt 'n conduit hanger bracket are pretty well documented items, and (with nuts and washers) might come to $4 at Home Depot.

If you've never seen one, read through... well, look at the pictures, in this thread for inspiration.

we also want to see your solution, so you're not off the hook! ;)

Thanks Anole for the thread it turns out I already had some of these brackets I just didn't know what they were.

I just located one of these as well. It's very similar anyway. I went to Home Depot today and noticed one on the roof of a gas station next door. They had four dishes on the roof. One was missing the LNB and the coax was dangling in the wind, clearly no longer hooked up. I asked the attendant if the owner was around. He wasn't but I left my phone number for him to call me.

Wish me luck.
