508 receivers - no DVR fees?

I noticed at the dishstore that 508 receivers do not have DVR fees.

Is this also true for 501's and 721's? Any others?

Does it matter where/when you buy it? Or are the ALWAYS fee free?

Yes, the 501, 508, and 721 have no DVR fees no matter where or when you buy them. The 510 and the upcoming 522 and 921 receivers will have a DVR fee no matter where or when you buy them unless you order the AEP (America's Everything Package).

They are giving discounts on the 510 receivers, and you might be able to get one for free. This helps offset the cost of the DVR fee for a long period of time (a couple three years) in which some would buy the latest DVR at that time and sell their used one. The DVR fee is $5 if you have the AT50, AT100, or AT150 package.
