Can the newer (211/411/622) STBs see 5 or more birds?

What is the limit on 6000/811/921/942?

If they can see 5 or more, what switch configuration is used?

Also, how can this be done with legacy lnbs (non-dp) - and please no lectures on upgrading to dp.

Thanks.

If you need to see 5, it can only be done with DP. (5 is the max with DP) using a dpp44/dp21 cascade setup.
4 is the max with legacy.

thanks guys.

still seems there ought to be a way to get 5 signals into a Vip 211 with legacy lnbs - but it appears it might be a brick wall.

And of course you cannot mix legacy and dp lnbs?

no. that would be to easy and dish doesn't like making thing easy

I noticed in one of the 622 setup screen shots that it has space for 6 satellites. Current switch configurations max out at 5 and the channel moves Dish is doing would seem to result in that rarely being necessary, but Dish also has other orbital slots that aren't even being used yet.

They put the HD LIL for Atlanta on 129 - yet you need 61.5 as well for Atlanta locals that are not HD

What idiotic planning - but should we expect less? Of course, people in Atlanta are screaming 129 only puts a 70 with a Dish 1000 so any hint of bad weather and its gone.

Then if you have 110 and 119 that maxs you with legacy which suxs.

What a mess. They should have put Atlanta on 61.5.

Give them a few weeks to get E10 tested, they should then consolodate all the SD locals off of the wings. They will probably move a bunch of the LIL HD to 110 too.

This is interesting. Is there a thread or guide out there that lists what's on what sattelite?

For example. I have a Dish 500 and Dish 300 receiving 110, 119, and 129. When Dish gets arounf to offering HD locals in my area (San Antonio) am I going to be able to get 'em or are they going to be on a 4th bird I can't see?

Can you use 61.5 and 129 at the same time? Or will it just confuse the heck out of the receivers?

I currently have 61.5/110/119/129 hooked up. My locals are on 129 and I get the channels off of 61.5 just fine. The receivers now remove the duplicate channels from the guide, so you only see 1 of each.

Which sat does it remove the dups from? I assume you are going into something like a DPP44 switch? And what happens if there is a long (5-10 minute) rain fade event on say 129, I dont suppose its going to switch over to a removed duplicate on 61.5 right?

I've got to aim my 129 dish again, and with solar conjucntion going on now, its a good time to do it, I just wanted to make sure its safe to plug in my 129 feed into the DPP44 (already has 61.5, 110, 119).

I have not experimented to find out which of the dups it would remove, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it is simple minded and would remove 129 by default. I have 61.5 on the DPP44 in slot 3 and 129 in slot 4, plus I bet the tables that dish sends down has 61.5 before 129 (just guessing but 61.5 was in the system first and it is also a lower number).

The only way to really know would be to tune to a channel and remove the satellite cable from the back of the unit and see which sat/TP it complained about looking for signal.

Mike,

When you're watching one of the Voom channels for example, can you go into 6-1-1 and tell us what satellite the receiver is getting the channel from. I'm interested in knowing what the receivers do with the HD channels when they see both 129 and 61.5

Hmm, to test the rain fade deal you could have someone go and block the LNB for each sat sequentually and see what happens - maybe easier and more "real world" a simulation than removing cables.

I have 110/119/129/61.5, and I believe the receiver is picking the stronger of the duplicates.

As long as I get the channels, I really don't care which bird it's picking up.
