5262(33) - WVLA [MPEG4 HD] added to Ciel-2 129W TP 09 Spotbeam 42 (NA)(Baton Rouge, LA-NBC)
8486(33) - WVLA [MPEG2 SD] added to EchoStar10 110W TP 25 Spotbeam 12 (NA)(Baton Rouge, LA-NBC)
6521(22) - WWL [MPEG2 SD] added to EchoStar10 110W TP 23 Spotbeam 12 (NA)(New Orleans, LA-CBS)
6522(7) - WDSU [MPEG2 SD] added to EchoStar10 110W TP 23 Spotbeam 12 (NA)(New Orleans, LA-NBC)

Nice for Baton Rouge to get WVLA (NBC) in HD!

Why is WWL (Channel 4) mapped down to channel 22, and why is WDSU (Channel 6) mapped down to channel 7? Are they going to be neighboring locals for another market close by?

In the bay area dish does not carry any of the four pbs stations jn HD it sucks!!

That is probably why.

The new law requires them to carry all four:

such satellite carrier shall carry the signals in high-definition format of all qualified noncommercial educational television stations located within that local market.’.

Dish has to add them by the end of 2011.

WVLA HD has been in Baton Rouge since this 5/13/2009uplink report:
http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-uplink-center/174730-5-13-2009-1-24pm-uplink.html

What you are seeing is the double mapping of channels for adjoining markets that are missing a station in their DMA. Like WVLA is an SV channel for the Lafayette DMA.

Digi, do you think this will be for the entire Lafayette DMA or will it be split based on the individual parishes? I.E. WVLA is SV for Lafayette, KPLC is SV for Acadia, and KALB is SV for Evangeline for NBC.

Not sure how that is going to work... I remember seeing that SV document. I'll just have to go with the quote I haven't seen in a while "we will just half to wait and see" ;)

In KC, MO we have 1 station with HD (some local mixed in), SD different.programming(some 16 X 9 full screen ala FOX box) and Create SD. I like these. Sometimes they are more useful than any of the other 20+ locals with subchannels. :)

Perhaps some other PBSs I don't get on my antenna.

A couple of the "fill ins" don't make sense to me:

Lake Charles:
I would think that filling in ABC/CBS with KATC/KLFY would be more appropriate - Excepting Fox, Lake Charles and Lafayette have been complementing each other on the big 3 networks. Cable carries 3 & 10 in LC...

Lafayette:
See above, with KPLC for NBC. Cable carries 7 in LFY...

Monterey:
I would think KGO in SF would be more relevant to the Monterey area than KEYT from Santa Barbara (the furthest away of the SB market stations...). Cable has a "sanitized" version of KGO (minus syndicated programs...). Wonder if the other stations in Monterey said "anything by KGO..."

Biloxi/Gulfport:
WDSU / WWL appear to be fill ins for this market. As for numbering, the channel numbers (7 & 22) appear to map to the Laurel/Hattiesburg NBC & CBS stations channel numbers, rather than NO...

Glendive, MT:
I'm curious if they'll be picking up KUMV (the NBC translator in Glendive) or just using KFYR's signal. KUMV has local newscasts for the region (vs. KFYR which is Bismarck-based...)

I don't get what they did with these either. On 129 SB42 there are two transponders. Both run in 8PSK mode. One TP carries 4 Baton Rouge HD MPEG4 channels and 5 or 6 Alexandria SD channels. The other TP carries the 3 HD MPEG4 channels for Lafayette.

SatelliteGuys.US - Subscription 129°W

As you can see on the link above the beam covers the Lake Charles DMA perfectly. They could have simply added KPLC, KVHP, and their PBS to the transponder the Lafayette HD locals are on. When SV kicks in Lafayette could get WVLA (BR) or KPLC (LC) depending on the decision for their NBC. Lake Charles would pick up CBS and ABC from Lafayette. But instead they are putting them on CONUS 77 and having to duplicate some 2 HD channels from the Beaumont, TX spotbeam on to CONUS 77. Waste of bandwidth.

Ok ok...so if they put them on WA they need to kick in SD channels? Not a problem, the beam that the SD's for Lafayette and Baton Rouge covers the Lake Charles DMA too.

There must be something else that is stopping them from making the proper decision to utilize bandwidth efficiently.

Nice... Macon, GA, locals in HD... at 77W.

I'm on 129... I'm guessing 1000.2 dish.

Dish Network says "sure, we can get you a dish pointed to 77W... for $95."

Great.

Oh, well, OTA works well, being only 18 miles from the transmitters.
