When Will LOST end?

From Zap2it:

LOS ANGELES -- The producers of "Lost" say they've started talking to ABC about when the show could, and should, end.

The idea, showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof said Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour, is to go out while the show is still strong creatively; Lindelof says they want to do the show for "as long as it's good."

Lindelof has long said he envisions the story as taking about 100 episodes to tell.

"Somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 to 100 episodes was going to be a version of 'Lost' where we never had to do the bad season, the stall season, where we had to back off the story we wanted to tell," Lindelof says. "Season one is the introduction, season two is the hatch, season three is the Others, I don't want to tell you what season four is going to be, and then there's a wrapup season."

By the end of next season, "Lost" will have aired 93 episodes, Lindelof says, "and I imagine that would be very close to where it would end ideally."

It doesn't sound, however, that any announcement about the series finale is imminent. Stephen McPherson, the president of ABC Entertainment, says that while he and the show's producers have informally discussed the "beginning, middle and end" of the series, there haven't been any formal talks about an end date.

Cuse, too, says that looking ahead to a finale now is "kind of a trick question. We're in the process of figuring that out now. It would be disrespectful to the process of those discussions for us to say, 'This is exactly when it should end, right here.'"

McPherson does allow, though, that he'd prefer to have a workable plan for the show's endgame, rather than letting it "peter out."

There's also the possibility that "Lost" could continue without its original team, but Lindelof says he doesn't have the sense that would happen.

"The good news about a guy like Steve or [Touchstone TV chief] Mark Pedowitz is that we all kind of looked at each other at the very beginning and said, By the grace of God will this show even survive 13 episodes," Lindelof says. "So we're able now, Carlton and I, to sit down with them and say, 'Remember at the very beginning when you were having us convince you that this thing could go for years and years, and we all agreed it couldn't? Now just because it's successful it doesn't mean that's changed.' ...

"We were surprised when we went to ABC and started having that conversation. As opposed to them saying, 'Fine, we'll bring on new people,' they said, 'When do you think it should end?' Then the conversations began. Obviously they want the show to go on as long as possible, and all we can say is there's a show with us running it and a show without us running it, and if you want the show with us running it, this is when we think it should end."

Tonights the night, don't forget!!!

By the way, why did they change the time to 9:00 PM? Can't they leave well enough alone!!

The time-slot change was due to American Idol on Fox, they think that the competition with AI will kill the ratings. On the other hand, they should worry about Medium and CSI NY, which are on the same time (10PM), i think that they have made a bad decision, the ratings for the first six episodes weren't so great, and now the writers better come up with something good!!! Just so you know, I have removed LOST from my DVR schedule, I rather record Medium and CSI at this time. Hopefully they will make me change my mind!

I think getting away from Idol is a good thing, but I also think the threat of CSI: New York and Medium is real. Lost will do ok, IF it improves the story-line, and starts explaining some stuff.

Kind of like the experience with Heroes. For several weeks it got more and more confusing, kind of difficult to figure out; but since December it has gained a little more clarity and improved dramatically.

My fingers remain crossed in the hopes that LOST finds a little clarity as well. I know they will always keep us wondering, but... it cannot help to hope! :D :D

Pretty good episode; still lots of mystery - but a lot of fun to watch. Its nice to know that there are 15 more episodes to look forward to.

Finally watched yesterday's episode. Interesting, Desmond can go back in time. I have to admit LOST continues to confuse the heck out of me -- I know its supposed to be a mystery -- but after several episodes focused on the others, in their compound, and a loss of the sense of the supernatural, this episode brought it back.

Of course, there are a ton of storylines they have left hanging; like Hurley and his now-dead-girlfriend; who apparently was in the same mental institution that Hurley was; then there is Locke and his ability to walk; and where that came from; and... and... and... heck, I can't even remember what happened to Michael and Walt ;)

I sometimes miss the first seaosn when they were all together on the desert island; now the story is spread so far out, it makes Heroes sound like the most clear storyline on television, and the Cylons on BSG to be something a third-grader could understand.

And while it is unclear whether the new 10pm timeslot is causing its slip in the ratings, or maybe its just that people are so darn confused they are tuning out.

I took it more as Desmond has been through this before, multiple times. He mentioned that he had saved Charlie twice which means that Charlie would have had to die twice before for Desmond to be able to save him.

But he is definitely reliving things multiple times; as we saw with him tackling Charlie twice...

I dont know if its so much Desmond can go back in time or he was just dreaming everything. This is what happened after he used the fail safe and the hatch blew up and before he was seen walking naked thru the jungle. He was probable dreaming he was back home and how he would try to do things differently to prevent him from ending up on the island. The in his dream when he gets hit by the guy that walked into the bar it shocked him and woke him up.

Ok, dreaming it is probably a better explanation. But is he dreaming stuff that hasn't happened, or stuff he already did? :D

I'm still po'd about the new time slot, thank god for Tivo! Yeah, I'm pretty confused about it all, but yet I still love it! One minute you think you kinda know what is going on and then they blow your mind.

Thought the last episode was crap, I found myself reading the newspaper during the show, not a good sign. :(

I actually liked this week's episode. Starting to understand more. BUT only when I feel comfortable, they'll bring black the black cloud creature...
