Ala-Carte programing was available during the days of C-Band. But by the time you picked all the individual channels you wanted, it cost as much as if you just picked a package with the channels you wanted. It cost programers a lot more to program individual receivers than it does to assign an already programmed package to a receiver.

Anyone remember "DishPix"? 10 channels for $15/mo. But even then Viacom and Disney channels were not available as part of this pack.

actually it was originally 10 channels for $10 and it was ANY channel on AT40 except Disney (Viacom channels were part of it)

Unless it's ESPN or an RSN, a buck a channel is a lot of money. The average last year was 20 cents per channel. Not that great of a deal.
