4 Receivers Gone Bad in 2 Months - Am Mystified

You never have said what kind of surge supressors that you use. Walmart 7.98 surge supressors are not very good. You need one by APC or Panmax or Isobar or any major surge suppressor maker. I have battery backup surge suppressors on my TV, av receiver, TiVos and Sat receivers, plus my computer. I use APC and they run about $50 each and are worth every penny spent. APC has a light for a bad ground. If the ground is bad, the light comes on.

Electrician is coming today - too many accidents from bad wiring and I figure we were more than lucky this time and do not wish to push that luck too far.

To add to the surge protector commentary, most cheap surge protectors dump the excess voltage INTO the ground. If you are already having ground problems, this will just make things worse and not protect anything.

Ask your electrician about installing a "Whole House Surge Surpressor". It's installed at the circut breaker panel and protects everything. I would then use another surge suppressor for your computer, receivers, expensive electronics. Thats what I did in my home and have never had any type of problem. If you choose not to, I agree, buy a good surpressor, most likely $30 or higher. The bigger the number it can surpress, the better it is! Good luck!

I've had customers have as many as three bad replacements and the technician lady on the phone says they do not send out bad receivers. I got majorly pissed off at her and told them not to send anymore of their junk refurbs. She said she would make sure that she would send out a brand new one and if this one does not work out they would personally send someone out to check it out. Put it in and NO PROBLEMS SINCE!

Dish Network is the problem, they send out JUNK! Make then send out a new one. After three refurbs the policy is a new one.
