4:2:2 / DVB S2 Questions

Coolsat 8000 & 8100 do DVB-S2 out of the box
I'm primarily interested in the SD & HD NBC feeds and the RTN S2 feeds on C band.

What do these receivers do when 4:2:2 video is encountered - Is anything displayed?

What about AC3 audio? My Pansat 2700 produces silence.

I'm presently having a video problem with the ABC SD Net feeds. The video appears pixelated. Same problem with the CWD live feeds on Galaxy 25. Does anybody know the cause of this?

4:2:2...black screen, audio is there but shows "no video" on screen

AC3 built in...no additional decoder needed. My 8000 works fine on AC3 and I use the RCA cables to run to the DVD recorder

unless its been PROVEN to have such a spec dont believe it....hate to be cruel but thats the truth

The captiveworks I have (CW600) CLAIMS blind scan in the specs and it doesnt work at all
The viewsat I had (the original) CLAIMS motor control...well it did have motor control. Too bad it wouldnt stop at the right spot

so if someone who tried a product says it doesnt have a spec that is listed (or claims to have) thats good enough for me :)

Can you receive the ABC SD NET and the CWD Live feeds? I was wondering if the pixelization was some form of scrambling, or possibly an LNB oscillator stability problem. For whatever reason, these channels do not decode properly.

which ABC ones? G16? Those scan in just fine and work perfect on the Q...both SD & HD
G25 is a bugger for me on C-band....only have 6 foot dish ;)

The spec is published on the viewsatusa web site Max HD and in the MAXHD users manual.

please read my first sentence in your quote.....but since you dont want to believe me here is a post from vfrjim who had the receiver when asked about a review

Unfortunately, I am not ready for a review yet, it is a buggy receiver if you ask me.
Heck, it would not find any S2 feeds with factory firmware at all and Viewsat sux at responding to problems.

maybe he can elaborate on that

ABC SD NET-14
ABC SD NET-10
ABC SD Net-8

I'm picking them up on Galaxy 3-C at 95 degrees, but the listing says they are supposed to be on Galaxy 26 at 93 degrees. I couldn't find anything at 93 degrees, but I may have an aiming problem. I'm using a 12' Paraclipse dish.

I remember reading that thread, but I think it was later mentioned that a firmware update fixed a lot of the problems, so I haven't completely dismissed Viewsat as a possible receiver choice.

The MAXHD specification advertises that it is Fully MPEG-2 & DVB-S2 Compliant.

What's the story?

Maybe they fixed it but when I got rid of it a month ago, it could not find a dvb-s2 with a seeing eyed dog... and I was not too happy with their customer service.

I am very happy with my new PC that I built, does s2 and 4.2.2 without problems

oof...havent tried that batch yet...I know of the ones on G16 and those are fine
The ones on G16 are 4:2:2 video. I don't remember seeing anything there. Probably because the screens were black.

I do have a PC that I could dedicate to S2. Perhaps this is the best solution for now.

What card are you using?

um, they only have 2 C-band muxes
G3 which is DVB
G28 which is DVB-S2 and never was "converted" to DVB-S2...it was brought live in that format

There's 3. Your notes are missing one and it's kind of shocking, considering the 3rd one has been around 6 months or so.

I have a Technotrend S2-3200 and a TBS 8920PCI DVB-S2 TV Tuner Card 8920 Both work well but the TBS locks much faster then the S2-3200 but the cons are that it only uses BDA drivers which means as of now that you cannot use TSReader with it, but works well with ProgDVB Pro (which is what I mainly use as my viewing software).

Make sure you have enough CPU horsepower, it needs it. (Running an E8600 @ 3.33 ghz and 4 gigs of memory with Vista 64 Ultimate with an onboard Videocard- Nvidia 9300) and it uses 30-38% cpu load with deinterlacing of 45+mbps sources

From my knowledge the Viewcrap, oops I mean Viewhack, aww man I mean Viewsat Max does not do dvb-s2

I agree where you are coming from "big time".

I thought that the Viewsat Max was a scaled model of the 9000?
now I have bought an used a lot of mpeg receivers, an only had 1 Viewsat a 9000, an NO S-2 lock from it. and it was 1 of the worst receivers that I ever have used will never get another 1. I think Viewsat caters to the eye-patch gang instead of ftaers.
