Why

for the last two weeks dish has been adding alot of test channels so i am wondering if they are adding 10 hd channels on a transponder so far on the eastern arc i counted 25 to 27 hd channels possibly to be added.if that is true all the would need is to add the rest of the channels that have hd feeds which i have on my list about 30 to 35 channels which i hope to be honest with you guys all the channels should be in high defition?

Once again they are TEST channels. No harm no foul.

I remember back when 148W was still active and Dish was testing MPEG4 SD on some transponders. They were in the clear for Free to Air receivers and they would try to cram 24+ SD stations on a TP. This is before MPEG4 was the standard for Dish (and also before Eastern Arc). They even tried mixing HD & SD on a TP.

There's 9 full time HD channels on each of most of the CONUS transponders on 72.

WMFD in HD finally! I wonder if Dish will now add the guide data for the OTA feed. I guess that might be too much to hope for.

For me the most interesting thing is that Dish freed up another transponder on Western Arc. Getting rid of all those PPV SD channels a couple of weeks ago, and moving the ones that remained in this uplink, the only thing that remains on 110 transponder 6 is that virtual "up" channel.

As encoding technology improves and if/when Dish sees it to their economic advantage to invest in new encoders, we could see 10 or more per transponder with no perceivable change to the viewer.
